This is the first of a series of projects I will be creating for my portfolio. Eventually this will be a scene of a car driving around a bend in a coastal highway. The car is of my own design, but it borrows several aspects from Saleen, Mustang, and other sports car concepts. Here is a fairly early render of what I've made in the past day or so:

This will probably be the only car scene in my portfolio, since I think I've had enough practice already.

I'll be posting a wireframe later, when I have a little more to show.

I have CDO. It's like OCD, but the letters are in alphabetical order, like they should be.

Sweet, yup. Sell it to audi, it looks like an audi kind of car.

C&C Maybe lengthen the bonnet a bit, the cockpit if you could call it that looks to close to the front of the car.

If you look at that, the bonnet or whatever you americans call it is considerably longer than yours, just looks a bit odd.

I think they call it "the Hood?"

There's other stuff like aerodynamicism, and stability, but that's be a beautiful thing to see Jeremy Clarkson hurtling round a track in, (Top Gear reference)...

@Violent Pigeon: That is because the engine will be behind the "cockpit", so the hood doesn't need to be that long. I believe it's called mid-engine.

On another note, I do plan to model the interior and engine in greater detail than previous models, since both will be visible in the render(s).

Yech. Homework sucks.

SO I haven't gotten much done over the past few days. But now it's Thanksgiving break, so I've got more free time. I look forward to completing the body by Friday, don't quote me on that though.

Another update, and probably the last until the body's done. I'm not sure if the curve in the doors will stay that severe, I didn't really design this beforehand. Just kinda makin' it up as I go.

Looks really cool but hard to judge without the rear section. I almost think that last pic looks like a rear 3/4 view... Possibly because of the windshield beam shape and how the front of the door looks wider than the rear. I can visualise the higher contour running to the top of the front wheel-well (if it was reversed).

Ha! Met my own deadline. Sort of.

The body's mostly done, except for the rear end because I don't really know what I'm going to put there, besides exhaust pipes and a spoiler. I'm not too sure about the headlights either. Maybe I should have planned this out a little better.

Added rear spoiler and exhaust pipes...

C&C is always welcome, you guys. I promise I won't bite.

EDIT: Huh. The spoiler kinda got lost in the shadows...It wasn't like that in the render. I'll have to lighten it up a bit.

Re-designed the headlights, and added a bit of color. I think I'll use a different material for the inside of the headlights, so you can see the shape a little better.

I was thinking of making a low-poly version of this when I get done, to sell in the TGC Store. Would anyone be willing to buy it? Currently it's 3628 quads (~950,000 subsurfed for the render) and I don't even have the interior, engine, taillights, or wheels yet.
I think I could get it down to about 3,000-4,000 polys for the low-poly version though.

Venge, I love your cars, however on this one I have a little critism. The a-pillar needs to be moved back a little to allow for a decent vision angle from the drivers point of view. my opinion is that where it ends from front to back, where it ends it should start then blended into the wing. Other than that I am looking forward to seeing this finished as it is looking awesome.

I give up with this banner thing as it never seems to work for me. I will now stop wasting mu time.

Not sure what you mean there? But I think I know what you're trying to say. The a-pillar is a bit too wide, maybe cutting it down to something more like this?

@Maindric: All you need is practice. My first attempt at making cars wasn't too good either.

Thanks for the comments everyone. And coffeegrunt, with a little practice and patience you could be making models much better than this.

To reiterate what I said earlier, would anyone be willing to buy a low-poly version of this model from the TGC Store when I finish it?

Fixed the shading issue with the headlights/taillights, and added wheels. I was actually surprised at how well this render turned out -- aside from some minor things with the seams and wavyness in the fenders, it's starting to look pretty good.

Sorry for the lack of updates... Lately I've been suffering a bout of procrastination and a case of acute CounterStrike-itis. I think I've gotten over it now, though.

I added tires and brake pads, still have to uv-map a tread texture and make the brake calipers. I think it's safe to say this is the closest I've ever gotten to photo-realism.

Well, what's there now is just a cylinder with a crappy texture slapped on it so you can't see through the wheel. When I add the calipers I'll put more detail into the disc too.

i really think you should make the inwards curve of the car (Towards to middle) A LOT less severe. At the moment it looks like one of those cartoon hover cars from old games lol.

The base mesh is currently 6182 quads and counting, but the subsurfed rendered version is nearing 2 million.
