I've got about 30 skyboxes that I've created for FPS Creator, and I will be releasing all of them. Here's the first release, Distant Industrial City z7b/z7c

INCLUDES: 512×512 texture version, 2048×2048 high quality texture version, full FPSC ready skybox, plus Bryce 5.5 source file for full editing capabilities.

PRICE: $5.99 USD

If you want to preview the skybox in your browser or watch a video of the skybox in FPSC then head on over to our store.

Thats a great skybox, but $6 is a bit steep... There was a large pack of wonderful skyboxes, for about half the price of yours. Perhaps lowering it to $1.50 or so?

Thanks Bendak11 and code master for the compliments and feedback. To address Bendak11, the price is firm at the moment. We'll be releasing packs of 10 skyboxes that will offer a discount over the individual prices. In the case of this skybox there's two things that separate it from others:

1) It includes the Bryce 5.5 source file, meaning you have the full ability to alter the scene directly, change the scene from night to day, etc. I have not seen any other purchasable skybox that includes the Bryce source file to date.

2) It includes a FPSC ready 2048x2048 high quality textured version along with the standard 512x512 version. The difference in quality is very noticeable, while the framerate drop is minimal. I have not seen any other purchasable skybox that includes a 2048x2048px texture to date.

This is a great looking skybox. I don't think the price is steep, from what fallen one said about making skyboxes it is a pain in the rear.

In truth its not so difficult to create skyboxes in Bryce, I believe there is even a scene setup available with the camera postions already preset. It is a nice skybox but I do have to say I dont think you are going to get a lot of sales at that kind of price, particularly since Bryce5 was recently released for free.
Also outputting a 2048 res texture takes no more work than outputting a 512 texture, once your scene is established.
I dont want to come across as negative you are entitled to put whaever price you want on your product, its just advice as a lot of users around here are pretty young and look for something a bit lighter on their pocket.
I have always been of the opinion that I would rather sell 100 units at a buck than ten at 10 bucks

Very nice skybox!

I never did the large images because the files sizes were much larger.
I always try to keep the files as small as possible and the 512x512 are acceptable quality.

Yep,
volume=exposure
and that is what indepedent developers need.

This quality is very nice though, and the price is not bad.
It is nice to have the options there to choose from should someone want to fork out for a killer skybox.
After all, "you get what you pay for". (higher quality = higher price)

Very nice work! Keep at it.

This is a nice skybox and I'll be purchasing purely for the Bryce source file.

Fallen One released a pack of 32 skyboxes for $40.99 around the same level of quality as this.

Your collection of 30 skyboxes would cost $179.70 if purchased individually so I hope the pack discount being offered is going to be substantial. Around 75% off if your going to be competitive otherwise they'd better all be a bit special.

You'll probably make a few sales on this particular skybox but I doubt many will continue to purchase at that price.

I'm surprised we haven't seen more FPSC games being made with non stock sky boxes. Fallen One's pack was a good deal and they make a big difference to the overall quality of a games presentation.

Ahem, you mean a better than this

Is this 5.99 for 1 skybox, you could of had 8 of mine for that.
Also on the size, you don't need them that big, I rendered mine at 512x512, then I made them larger in PS and ran a few operations over them to improve the appearance at the bigger size, they came out perfect at that. even at the base render of 512x512, some took hours to render out due to Bryce being a slow renderer and the complexity of the scene, so that resolution is not needed at all.

Nomad - I think that's expensive for the source file, its a few hills, with some boxes put in and one of the default building materials laid on.
That's the sort of price Id expect for something like this, my last skybox

Not a few hills and primitives, as above, no disrespect to the OP, but that's pricey for something very simple.

Ill just make a note, Ive been thinking of doing a program that makes skyboxes for you, I'm busy at the moment making applications for the iphone and then a puzzle game for the casual games market and the portals, but when I'm done I want to look into it, with the program anyone would be able to create their own skyboxes just by altering sliders and ticking checkboxes to make custom skyboxes with ease.

Oh, I see JQ. Well if that is the case, than that $6 doesn't seem nearly as steep. Thanks for clearing that up.

Yeah, two famous ones are called Bryce and Terragen.

I use Terragen, and I made the ceSky program for easy importing into FPSC.

I too had thought of doing a skybox program but thought, whats the point when they already have good ones.
So, I just settled making ceSky so that I could import the skybox images into FPSC since Terragen doesn't output for FPSC.

Good Luck with your program Fallen One.
I look forward to seeing the final result.

LOL. Yeah I just meant the average quality across your 32 skyboxes is as good. Some of them are absolutely stunning and theres more detail.

Yeah but I do think providing the source files is a neat idea. Perhaps you'd consider reinstating your packs with them? hint hint.

I hadn't seen that one. Very impressive.

Yeah that sounds cool as long as it doesn't turn out being a bit gimmicky. I'd prefer a proper tutorial that allows you to understand how to make a completely custom one from the ground up.

I'm going to buy this skybox just so I can see how long it takes to render on my PC and if I can edit it with any degree of success or skill. I can live with $6 for that if it helps me to make my own until you get round to doing something.

Wow... It's good, but six bucks? That's very steep to me. I would sell a pack of ten skyboxes of that quality for about $4.00.

definitely too pricey. tgc sells good skyboxes (i think there were 88 in one pack for a little over 30 bucks) I would definitely bring it to at least 2 bucks.

...there are seams that can be seen, especially in the foreground water. Pan the 360 view around, and it's clear as day.

Not quite up to a $5.99 price tag for this lone item.

It is pretty good work though, and once polished, you will probably have better luck attracting buyers.

The price tag should come down, as it's more than a tad too high...
