Very brave of you Rich to finaly open the bug forum, you know it will fill up quickly

At last! After all this time, we can send our bugs there for extermination instead of flooding Lee with e-mails. I'm sure he appreciates that.

One question however: Does this mean we will soon get regular reports on whether any bugs we find have been squished?

It would be handy way to keep track of Lee's progress without having to pester him all the time

i don't think the bugs forum is for bugs in general. i thought it was achieved to report bugs of the U5 Beta.

Lee prefers emails, he hates the forum. Once we weed out what is a user error against what is a confirmed bug I just send them onto him.

So if you're used to emailing Lee, carry on doing so.

"you know it will fill up quickly" - yes, that is the point of it. Although so far it's about 50% user error vs. 50% bugs.

"Does this mean we will soon get regular reports on whether any bugs we find have been squished?"

Not as it stands now. Bugs will be marked as confirmed and/or fixed when the time happens but that's all the tracking you'll get. Basically ALL confirmed and reported bugs get fixed eventually.

Lee reports his progress pretty much daily in his diary on DBDN. There are no plans to alter this atm.

Cheers,

Rich

Doesn't look that way at the moment. Either P5B2 is remarkable bug-free or no-one is testing it.

i'm testing it on/off ... got a nice notepad of bugs i've found already, but at the same time i'm trying to write up most of my website.

no matter what i do i can't get my menu's to work, and its a pain trying to figure out howto access the database.
been trying with JScript & MsSql but i have a feeling i'm gonna have to use MySql - but i'm not sure howto do that with JScript. Dreamweaver isn't any sodding help either

Me, hate?! Strong word that Let us say I prefer email for bug reports (one bug per email). I do like the Forum very much. It's like the internet. Extremely useful tool, I just don't have the time to read it all! The new bug base will essentially be an extension of the email bug report system I currently employ.

It's still nice to see a public list of the current bug status.

I don't think you can, because JScript is a client side language, and MySQL stuff has to be server side IIRC. The easiest way to access MySQL databases is using PHP code.

Rich is the expert in this arena though

That'll do for me Rich, thankyou

I suspect there are not that many P5b2 users out there at the moment, others are probably a little put off by the watermark and the expiry date so are waiting for the full release instead.

Nice to see Lee paying us a visit now and then

It's more of a problem with the window that pops up for a second saying the program is freeware which slows development down too much.

Why isnt Lee an admin or a mod?
It would be nice if the whole DB-Team had "Administrator" next to their names, and get those lovely looking avatars back

Yeah, i really doubt you can access a MySQL database using JScript (that would make it very easy for the user just to edit the script, and even delete your whole database with a few lines of code lol.)

Anyway, i don't know what your trying to achieve raven, but you should use my favourites. ASP (VBScript) and Access, so easy
Any DB-lover could learn ASP very easily, especially one who knows *hard* programming lingo's too

How did i get onto this subject? Ohyea, a bugs forum is kewl

In which case they better not moan if U5 release causes any problems.

Presumably because he doesn't have the time to oversee / mod threads on the site. With the exception of DBDN he doesn't visit the forums that often.

On the server-side scripting issue I would recommend PHP over ASP, because on my PC, and elsewhere on the web, PHP seems faster than ASP.

So far I havn't had enough time to do much beta testing with p5b2. I may start to mess around with it later in the night.

eMail is so last century already. It's an outdated form of communication that is the domain of the spammer. I loose half my legitimate emails amongst the spam.

People think I don't reply, but really, I just didnt see it because they didn't mark the subject line with something relevent, instead they said 'hi' or 'great news'... ZAP!

Anyway that's bye the bye, i'm replying because of this:

Just because DBS released the BETA publicly does not exclude them from the responsibility of writting stable software that was bought and paid for over a YEAR ago and still doesn't work.

You must be making a mistake somewhere. I have two email addresses, both of which receive a fair amount of correspondance, and neither of which receive much spam (1 spam email per day).

If you use Hotmail then choose a really unusual address, if you use another provider, ensure that you don't sign up for anything or leave your address lying around in too many places.

Of course not, but if nobody tests the beta, most bugs will go undiscovered. As far as the software "not working", what exactly is causing problems in your current project? Have you emailed Lee about it?

Hey Rob K, congrats

(I don't remember you being a mod at the beginning of the day? When did that happen?)

Anyways, so far I havn't had many problems with the P5B2. I was gonna post about BSP's but I see it's already been taken care of.

i don't get spammail... there's an invention called a Spam Blocker - my MSN Mail has it, my Outlook 2003 has it, my AOL 8.0 has it, and my NortonIS 2003 Pro has it.

so all that happens is if it isn't a legitimate email it gets sent to the bulk mail bins (which i never really read)

as for the code... i've been tinkering with php, but for some reason this machine won't setup a sodding local server for testing.
so whenever i wanna test anything i have to upload it.
btw i am using ASP w/JScript 1.2 - i can access all the Mircosoft database types MsSql/MsDataBase/MsFox/Oracle ... but i just can't get it to connect to MySql without using a php go between.
and i can't find any tutorials on the net that explain howto do it either.
