I read that you can import a FPSC level into DBP. Is that true and if so how do i do it?

Hi Panda Games

Can I suggest if your going to use FPSC as a map editor for importing into DBPro that you go with Dark GDK instead.

There's a link here which gives you the code to load an FPSC map into Dark GDK complete with skybox and player / camera movement.

Dark GDK has better performance than DBPro due to being C++ whilst still retaining DBPro functionality and is amazingly free. I'm downloading the required GDK files now to see if I can get anything going with it as it already supports dark shader.

You might want to check out this months newsletter which shows how to import maps made using Truespace 7.6 (now a free application). The example video in the newsletter looks good.

Fortunately if it turns out I cant code in C++, FPSC X9 and X10 will still be there for me and now with XBOX 360 controller support!

[Edit] - Some performance comparisons between Dark GDK and DBPro

[Edit] - Just had a thought. Sparky's famous collision .dll plugin is now available for DBPro and Dark GDK and from what I've read takes 99% of collision / optimisation problems away.

Can we not use the DBPro version of this .dll in our FPSC installation folders and benefit from proper terrain and imported level mesh collision?

It's your choice but seeing as Dark GDK is free, cost is irrelevant.

I've been playing with Dark GDK for a couple of nights now and enjoying it more than I thought.

I used the DBP example project assets from this months newsletter, ported the code into C++ equivalent, imported a map, added some geometry, fog, a skybox, camera controls, a particle effect and the colonel x character with a shader. See attached
