Well, I thought this idea would start me down a better track than I have been on. And if I make it known, the better chance I will stick to it. So if you procrastinate like me, join me in signing the

"I make my resolution to complete a game in the first 30 days of 09".

Keep it simple, make it fun, but most of all... just create something. I will keep this list updated here in the first post.

So sign on if you dare! I think we could all help motivate eachother, and at the end I hope that everyone on the list will have a completed fun game under their belt.

I [undersigned] make my resolution to complete a game in the first 30 days of '09

Oooh! This sounds cool! I've started learning Irrlicht, so I guess I'll try to complete my first game in Irrlicht (a 3D pong game) in the first 30 days.

I AndrewT make my resolution to complete a game in the first 30 days of '09.

Sounds like a great project for 30 Days AndrewT!!! You're on the roster!

My project PriMix (a 2d game idea i never worked on) is a puzzle game that combines ideas of tetris, and matching games like bejeweled. The Twist, rather than 3 alike colors making a match and clearing... whenever you have 2 primary colors and the secondary color they make in a row (in any order) they clear. The colors come on pieces that are tetris like, but rather than falling, you drag them along the outside of a cube playfield and when you click the mouse they are drawn to the center; until they collide, or reach the center.

so some color combos would be
[red][yelow][orange]
[yellow][red][orange]
[red][orange][yellow]
[yellow][orange][red]
[orange][red][yellow]
[orange][yellow][red]
[blue][yelow][green]
[yellow][blue][green]
etc...

It's a remake of Raptor: Call of the Shadows in 3D, to be made with XNA and C#.

That might be difficult to get done in a month 1/2 time, but it would be cool to see. I'll put it up, but let me know if you change your mind before the 1st.

You'll be grateful you paid attention in history class when those pesky Huns cross the alps to invade Britain again. And you'll be especially grateful when you remember that the Huns didn't invade Britain!

I'd love to do this but I'm pensive about signing on. For starters, my New Years resolutions haven't gone to plan lately. Also, I'm so bogged down with delays on REM and Redemption 9mm that I wish I could afford outsourcing, lol. So instead, my New Years resolution for game development will be this: stop designing games that are too dang complicated to realistically release within a few months, and stop tacking on new ideas/ features every week and save those ideas for sequels . Oh, and find another DBP coder for MISoft by March so I can focus on EE2, that should be resolution #2.

I actually have to do it for Uni, so it should be easier to get done. It's going to be in python + pygame - basically, lunar lander with round planets - Celestial Lander.

My goal will be a simple puzzle game, as inspired by a friend of mine who came up with the idea.

Hmm, Pong was a lot easier to make than I thought, so I'm changing my game to a simple 3D fantasy Tower Defense game.

I, Seppuku, make a resolution to complete a game in the first 30 days of 2009

I don't know what I'll make (maybe a simple battle game), but it sounds like a fun idea, most of Janurary I'll be away from Uni, though I will be planning RAGE week for our Uni, but I managed NaNoWriMo, so I can manage NaGaCreMo too.

It does sound ambitious, I know. I'll be doing this as a project for school credit, so I have some good motivation and the time available. We had a choice between attending a seminar for three weeks, or making a game, so I may even be done before 30 days are up. Also, most of the artwork will be done by a friend from school I'm teaming up with.

@draknir_

sounds good, and that is some great motivation. While the idea is to "complete" a game by the first 30 days of '09, it's sort of like the NaNoWriMo in that it's more important to set a goal, a time-frame, and work towards it. Some may wish to develop their 30 day project further. Just try to keep what is doable in about a month and a half.

I'll put up a template of a simple game design doc, and we should all be able to project how long each part of our game will take, and leave time for testing. This way we don't become a victim of feature creep!!!

I'll probably make a space shooter in Leadwerks, but I'm terrible at sticking with a game idea for any amount of time.

Sure, I won't patent it nor sue you. Unless you grow to earn millions from it, of course.

I say keep the same spirit as NaNoWriMo too, no competition, no checks, just your game, your goals.

It doesn't have to be a game per se. An app, project, demo, tool. I should have thought about that when I started the thread. The first thing that popped into my head was completing a game. So just change the word game to whatever it is you would call your project.

The whole idea or "spirit" of it is to work at completing a project in 30 days, and having the support of a group working to accomplish the same thing. Starting the New Year setting a reasonable goal, and enjoying the feeling of accomplishment by completing a challenge you set for yourself!

I'd love to do this, but I don't know enough about programming, and I don't think I'd have the time. I also lack the imagination, though I do have an idea I've had for over a year. I just don't know enough code though, and I don't want to re-make any games.

Great idea though! I'll do it next year for sure.

Technically I'm work on a text adventure for Uni (and am using dark basic pro) and it's only a small thing and I've nearly finished it (well first edit) but I'm not counting that, it'll be something separate. (because it's hardly a challenge)

@Yodaman Jer, If you pick something simple I'm sure I and others could help you with coding. It would be a good time to learn. BTW I see you are great with images, perhaps you would be willing to make a "NaGaCreMo '09", logo that we can hand out to participants to overlay on their sigs, or to use as their sigs. If you could that would be cool.
