I decided to get some modelling practice in, instead of programming. I'm more programmer than modeler.

So here is a Katana, mesh was created in ~20 min, uv mapping took 1 hour(a real pain for me to do), and texturing took 2-3 hours(also a pain, but I was trying out my new tablet).

I also had a play with rendering with Carrara, first render with it. The mesh is also 340 polys. Hope the screenys are not to big otherwise I'll just link them.

It's all good, although the handle does look a little boxy.

Yes you're wrong. The handle of a katana is cylinder shaped.

He did say "The handle of a katana" . Making me think that he was speaking of all katanas in general.

EDIT: Oh and Red Eye you might want to size down your sig to a maximum of 600x120. Before one of the moderators do.

I dunno which he meant, but the handle does need to be rounded out, I just checked my katana like sword

I actually have a katana in the house so trust me when I say that it's cylinder shaped.

It was already a little beveled, but here is my attempt at fixing the boxy-ness by shortening the longer parts of the handle. Any better?

Just delete the handle you have now and replace it with a cylinder.

Well UV Mapping a cylinder isn't that hard.

True, I suppose I was thinking of the method I used to UV map it earlier. Anyway I added 2 more edges and if it doesn't make it look cylindrical I'll use a cylinder.
