Hi. I've never managed to get bump maps to work in DarkBASIC properly on my own models. I've been using Lightwave for years but until getting DarkBASIC I've never needed a normal map or whatever they're called. Is there a shader (in LW) like surface baker to create these files? I've had a look and thought I'd found one, but it doesn't do what I want. All I want is to make the bump map images for my own models. It doesn't obviously have to come from LW as I'd accept a separate program of course. I feel its holding me back a little bit not getting bump maps working.

I have LW v8.5 by the way.

Thanks
Nick

False Alarm, sorry. I've realized you don't make the normal maps within the 3D software. I've found a nice tutorial on how to make them in GIMP. This should have solved it.

not all true, zbrush has a sulpt feature that lets you create a normal map by making a high poly version of the same model, although am not too sure on just how to save them yet, i can view them just not save, how irrtating lol

and theres something called melody by nevida which dose the same

cheers cb

Hmmm ok. I've managed some simple bump mapping now. I'll keep that in mind thanks. I'll be sticking with LW and GIMP for now as I've spent a fortune on LW and GIMP is free
