Here is a demo of a rubick's cube game I am making for my grandson. If you could tell me how it runs on your system(fps, any errors etc)I would be very grateful.Download link below.

Small update. You now rotate the cube using the W,S,A,D keys.Mix up now much faster.

Yo, I was going to post a rant about not including any screenshots, but as you're making it for your grandson and not TGC community, I'll let you off (not sure others will though).

I downloaded it any played it and it seemed to run pretty well. My FPS was around 57 all the way, with only fluctuations of about + or - 2.

And I got no errors.

(By the way, when I said I "played" it, I really meant: Mixed the cube then clicked aimlessly at faces, because I don't know how to do a rubix cube.)

Just played it.

The cube looked nice, nice reflectiveness.
FPS was good, stayed at roughly 71-74 the entire time.

Two things bothered me about this:
1) Rotating around the cube is a pain in the behind. You may want to try a different method. When I move the mouse left, I expect the cube to turn left so I can see the right hand side. This was only true at certain angles and changed quite abruptly.

However --

2) I solved the cube after much fighting with the camera. Nothing happened, though. This kinda disappointed me. I expected, at the very least, to have the "Mix" button reappear, but it didn't.

All in all, it's functional.

Well, that is a very nice game!

My FPS hovers around 55, although it once dropped down to 22, but that must have been a code error, because I didn`t notice any difference in the speed of the cube rotating.

Are you using a skybox, or just a plain object for your background?

It would be cool if you could rotate the skybox with the cube, to get a feeling of the surrounding, if you are using a skybox.

I am just guessing, but I think that when you rotate around cube, you actually rotate the cube, and don`t rotate the camera around the cube. If so, please make the cube static and rotate the camera. It makes it much easier to view.

Looking great!

nice cube constant 60 fps (specs in sig). no errors but haven't played it much, yet. my only gripe is the mix routine takes a little longer than i think it should. otherwise, very good. your grandson should like it

and, here's a screenshot so noone will shut the thread down.

Thans for your comments everyone.

Plystire :- Still working on splash screens and end game parts.Do you think that using the cursor keys or W S A D keys is a better option for turning the cube?

TheComet:-I'm actually rotating the camera around the cube and also rotating the skybox at the same time so it looks like the cube is rotating.

Virtual Nomad:-Will speed up the rotations at the mix stage.

nice. still 60 fps.

i mis-read your request for a splash screen (thought background screen instead) but here's something i had whipped up anyway... was keeping inline with your landscape + cloudy sky theme + rainbow since it's a rcube. (click view/download button. don't want to impose 250k+ graphic on anyone reading the thread ).

also, your in-game instructions fail to mention right-clicking rotates clockwise (left CCW). and, is it too late to change it from clicking the center cube (only) to rotate the face to any cube on that face?

btw, i can enlarge and center the "title" text to make a splash screen if you want. just ask.

Virtual Nomad:- Thanks for your comments.Did you find the mix routine better? Thanks for the image I will keep that, but if you could do it as a splash screen I would be grateful. Also could you make skybox textures like your image that I could use for the skybox ingame(hopeless at graphics )?

really good game, but it felt slightly awkward getting it to move right, i dunno. Probably because i didn't realise about the right click to turn in the other direction.
oh and BTW: It's Rubik's cube, not Rubick's cube

here's a similar splash screen. i've never really worked a skybox (actually, i have, but it's been a long while), so i'll look into, it but no promises

this 106k jpg is only slightly lesser quality than the 615k png so thought it best to attach this one. if you want the png, i can send. also, this one i kept in a lotta layers so it's highly tweakable. let me know if you want something(s) changed.
