I think this is the best looking model I have made so far! 510 vertices.

NOTE: I did not draw the texture of the knife. It's from a reference image I used.

Awesome most knives are deadly when being used as a weapon though

True, I just had to write something to get the required six characters into the title. Glad you like it!

Are you using spec/normal maps? Whats the resolution of your texture?

I am only using the bump mapping built into blender, with an image approximately 2000x500.

A screen of the wire is attached.

EDIT: the center knife in this picture is the reference I used.

What is that rendered in, whatever it is, it makes the models look amazing.

Not necessarily. Most modeling applications support what I used; AO (ambient occlusion), a spot light, a lamp, and bump mapping.

You could kill a LOT of those polys (especially on the blade) with some basic normal/spec mapping. Also... if this is intended for in-game use, I'd try to reduce the handle to at least half of what the polycount is now, if not more- no need for that many loops... especially in the base of the handle! Just a question: bump but no spec? A blade like this would benefit greatly from even minimal spec mapping! In case you don't know how to spec map... its quite simple! White = more reflective, black = less reflective - easy! One other quick question: Why the strange texture resolution? I believe using image resolutions that are powers of 2 make game engines much, much happier, along with giving you a little bit of extra oh-so-precious texture space. Don't quote me on that, but I'm fairly certain ^2 tends to be better than well... non powers

Oh rats... I was about to post a reply and we had a power surge. At least the computer is doing fine.

@ John H

Since the model isn't going into a game, I decided to focus on detail and not worry too much about polies. Although knowing how to do effective low-poly modeling is an important skill I still need to master.

So that's how you makes spec maps! I knew it was image based, I just didn't know how to make them. Thanks.

Also, I've heard about the "power of two" usage on image resolutions, but I just didn't take the time to change the res. I should have, but since this is not for a game, I just left it as it was.

@ darimc

Like Alucard was trying to say, get blender. It's free and it's amazing! Be warned though, it may take you awhile to get used to it.

@ Sushi01

I can't really take the credit for that since a lot of it is built into the reference image. However, I am about to add a spec map!

Thanks, but I'm not sure what you mean by that. Could you explain?
