What is the thing with guys wanting to be mods?

Does it look good on a resume, or what? Because even the guys who have no shot ask.

We can't stop here! This is bat country!

They are not respected because they are mods. You need to earn respect, you wont get it from 9 letters.

I've just been trying out my super-mod powers ... leaping tall buildings and burning holes in walls with my laser vision, y'know, that kind of stuff

Actually, I just asked to help out with the Bug Forum and Rich said yes.

lol, well i can see why those 9-letters could earn you respect with n00b's.

Quick idea: wouldn't it be kewl to have the word "PROgrammer" or something similar next to the names of everyone who turned out a nice game or program?

No special powers or anything, it just shows that they know what they're doing so people can turn to them for help

Anyway, ian, maybe that since now your a mod you can suggest it to rich. Don't forget to mention me somewhere though, lol

Mattman you know i wouldn't respect you even if had the power to remove me from the forums so...i want to be a mod...why?...cause i want to help out with keeping order, and give back to the community that has helped me out on so many occasions...did it work...did those magic words work...Damnit...i knew i was to evil to have mod powers...well not evil...just not powerful enough...powerful enough mentaly to help out with questions on anything other than multiplayer...and...yeah just multiplayer...yep thats it...

Hey Eddie - thats about exactly what I said when I became a mod the whole Giving Back part. Guys - its not anything amazing being a mod. You can delete stuff (posts and threads - not forums) sticky stuff, lock stuff and mark as flamebait and offensive (although I think stuff is deleted before its offensive )

Mod isn't a big thing, I agree. Hell its easier NOT being a mod. Look at Raven ^_^..He gets more respect and is more well known then the other mods (cept u RPGamer )

Hmmm, must remember not to use the crossed-eyes smiley ... not while I've got my laser vision active at least. My nose is half the size it was, bringing it in line with a normal sized nose

I don't really want to stomp on posts, and I'm hoping that people will generally continue to act maturely. Actually, I plan on keeping hands-off as much as possible - I mostly wanted to help out in the bug forum.

@Ian

I prefer the more traditional mod Zorro-style, logging on in the dead of night, carving "BUG CONFIRMED" on a thread with one deft manoeuvre and vanishing into the darkness.

Seriously though - I came to help out with bug reports and so on, and dealing with the occassional spammer.

@ShockForge

Sounds like a good idea to me. There are peps on this forum (Kohai / VanB etc.) who have done a lot for the DB community and it would be nice if they could have a "PROgrammer" status. I will suggest it to Rich sometime.

@Mattman

It really isn't that big a deal - plenty of other non-mods are experts here too. Hell - Lee Bamber isn't a mod and he is the author of DBPro.

You can still give back to the community without being a mod folks.
Whether it's in source code, tech demos, or just making a game that shows off db/dbp a little.

Or you can do this.
Just monitor the team request forums for a day, and tell all the newbie's that there rpg's will fail and make them read the rules.

I think that in order to be a mod, you should have to pass a trial in which you monitor the team request forums for one day(before being a mod). That's almost like a punishment, maybe it's too harsh.

I think we have a great team of mods already . Ian and Rob are two tech-savvy, intelligent, and constant user people, and they really deserve the mod position.

I have to agree-- being a mod dosen't earn you respect. You might get the title once you've already earned it through your posts.

A pretty diverse mod-base as well. All we need now is a mad scotsman to moderate the Team Requests board.
