Hi guys,

I've been building a level over the last month or two. It was going great, with minimal problems, but now near the end of the level I'm hitting so many errors I can't even complete another room. These are mainly physics and static geometry errors. I've had a thread in bug report for quite a while now with minimal replies.

Through researching past threads I've learned that there was an entity limit in past versions of FPSC and although it was apparently removed it is more likely that it was just increased. Does this limit still exist? If so is there anyway to work around it? And if it does exist why hasn't it been removed?

It is the only explanation I can possibly think of for all of these errors. If I add 1 dynamic entity, I get a physics error. If I add about over 10 static entities, I get a static geometry error (I'm using between 700 - 800 entities).

It's just such a shame as I was very close to completing the level. Anyone who is building large levels, (Nickydude?) how many entities did you use overall?

i had used more than 10000 Entites in a level without a crash but a framerate of 5

maybe i should say that it was only one entity which was spawning 10000 times (PC was running the whole night )

but i think your level should run fine.

If that is the case then I don't know what's going on... I just get debugs over and over...

Here's a list of everything I've tried:

Reinstallation.

Turning physics off of some static entities.

Removing some unnecessary dynamic entities.

Setting the game to high priority in processes.

Making sure entities do not overlap in certain areas (I have 2 areas where debris may overlap, however I had no trouble in the past when I made them.)

Removing some unnecessary static entities.

Removing some dynamic lighting.

Sorry, I know this is sounding a little like a bug report now...

I am having build game problems as well. Can I ask about your comment of "Turning physics off of some static entities"?

Do you mean like crates, tables, etc. and if so, what does this do? Does it effect the enemies around those items or just the items themselves?

Thanks

Static entities don't use physics, hence there is no reason for them being turned on for those entities. Whether this speeds anything up, i'm not sure.

It wouldn't use it anyway...

I'm unsure how many entities are in my levels TBH, but I've never heard of a cap on entity amounts...

Yeh, I can't remember where I heard about the physics thing but I figured I might aswell give it a try...

I don't think this has anything to do with a limit anymore. I just removed a number of entities which could have been overlapping and it hasn't made a difference. I'm out of ideas now.

Another:

As you can see the level uses many layers but most of these are only occupied by the one central shaft.

I don't think the level is too big or too busy. I've seen much larger levels in showcase.

I can't think what it is. I already have 657 entities loaded on my 3rd level of Izolis that I have yet to finish and tere's no problems with it...

I think an E-Mail to Lee is in order, or would be if he wasn't on holiday...

I've emailed Lee anyhow. He'll get it when he comes back.

I did another full reinstall and it didn't work.

UPDATE:

I'VE FIXED IT!!!

It turns out that FPSC will crash if the lightmapquality in the setup.ini is great then 10 (Havent tested lower). While it is great that i've managed to find the cause I'm sure confused as to why it's happening. I only had the quality at 20, am I doing something wrong?

Hmmm, perhaps you were simply overloading your PC?

Then again, mine's at 40 lol...
