The level looks a bit bland at the moment so add a small blue/red/green light to the power boxes to add a little highlight.

just so you know AI, I don't mean that in a nasty way, I meant so that you can focus your efforts into the one game so people don't start flaming you.

Here's another screen down the hallway, with pipes added. Any suggestions as what to add in are accepted.

I like the pipe going down the corridor. The one going overhead however looks quite chuncky and out of place in the environment.

@ Butt monkey (odd name BTW): Thanks; this is a service corridor and a regular hallway as well. There'll be offices attached to the warehouse (where snipers can shoot down at you).

@ Indy: Thanks, I do have some signs made in Enity Workshop; I'll put some up.

It looks a little bland and too many lights in that room, just have the one on the wall illuminate the room. Also, put something on the walls and add some boxes or barrels and some debris on the ground.

Acually AI, that latest shot looks pretty good. You have managed to capture the desired enviroment well, but as stated the pipe down the middle of the corridoor is a tad too much, but other that that, keep it up! Its good to see you are churning out some shots

Keep it up

Why? You posted the required screenshots (which look great by the way ) for your thread, don't let others force you into providing constant screenshots just for the sake of it. Take you time and provide them when you see fit.

Good Luck.

Looks like a truck in a room...how'd it get there? I'd add a garage door (from mp3) in front of it...

Other than that I can't see very much.

I dont get the point of the last screen. You cant see anything with the humvee in the way... I understand that might be what you see when you first start but it really doesnt show us much. Maybe try a better angle, it would show some more of the room

Here's the story for Kola, it may seem a bit similar to Splinter Cell, considering Kola is inspired by that game (the first one).

Kola – Story

To: Raymond Washington {[email protected]}
De: Bruce Stern {[email protected]}
Sub: Covert ops?
Date: 11:19, 10/13/09

Cousin,
What’s up? College is doing well. I heard on the news broadcast yesterday that a few government agencies are sending out operatives and they mentioned your name! I don’t know how to feel about this malarkey, but Gerry Edwards (the anchorman) said that those selected agents are heading to the Murmansk Oblast region in northern Russia for some sort of solo op. I’m terrified & baffled as to how the hell you, out of all people, was chosen for solo action. What on earth is going on? They gave us vague data on this issue. Please tell me, as I wouldn’t want to inform your mother regarding this.

Love, Bruce

Bruce,
Just came back from intel briefs. They said that I and a heap of other agents are headed out to the Murmansk region, like you heard. Let me tell you about this situation: we are to retrieve a hard drive containing viral substances that’ll be released onto every government and military mainframe across the US; the CIA, FBI, and other bureaucratic organizations are targeted. We have to retrieve this server and extract it to the States for further analysis. We are to then stay at the American Embassy via Moscow for a few weeks, then come home, simple as that. Don’t worry your little top off, it’ll go by quickly. Tell your aunt & uncle that I’ll be okay and will write as soon as I get to the Embassy.

Ray

Drop the emails. I don't mean to be offensive, but it just screams "I cant make a cutscene". Not to mention the serious flaws in it...

For starters, something that serious would not be broadcast on television, let alone with names. And you do realise that "Covert ops" means undercover right? So there's no way the soldier would talk about it except with those authorised, let alone on email.

I understand you want to make some kind of back-story, but you're going about it the wrong way. We don't need to know his cousin's email address, or the name of the Anchorman on a TV channel. Tell us a little of his past if you must, aswell as where he's going and what his objectives are, but leave it at that. Nobody's going to pay much attention to the character's background in a game where you run around shooting terrorists.

Best,
Paul

I have to agree with paul that these emails are quite flawed. If you are adament about using emails then make the conversation seem more natural. And also a bit more realistic. Instead of it being between cousins make it between someone closer to him like a wife. Also i don't think they would talk about solo ops on television. I like the story it just needs to look a little bit more real and natural

Anyway this is looking good dude, keep it up and stay motivated!

The new screen looks pretty good. like the others said, add a bay door, to explain why the truck's there. I personally don't like those lights down that corridor, but it's your choice...

Here is an edited story - it's between Ray and his sister now, with a vague idea of Ray's expedition, but he doesn't mention any spying or killing.

"Kola – Story

To: Raymond Washington {[email protected]}
De: Valerie Washington {[email protected]}
Sub: How’s it going?

Ray,
How’s it going over in the US? I heard about you being transported overseas for some reason, hope that’ll go well. Business trips are always fun, eh? My tour of Europe’s going well, and I met a lady a day ago, her name’s Marie, and she’s from England, touring the country I’m in (Italy). She’s a nice gal, send me a postcard sometime.

Sis

------------

To: Valerie Washington {[email protected]}
De: Raymond Washington {[email protected]}
Sub: Re: How’s it going?

Valerie,
I’m doing well. You could say that it’s a business trip; government affairs. Not allowed to tell anyone, even family members about it, but I’ll keep this vague: I’m off to Russia on a sight-seeing, tourism thing; protecting tourists and such. I’ll be gone for a few weeks and won’t be back until mid-December or the New Year. Don’t ask any questions, and I’ll send you a postcard soon.

Your brother,
Raymond"

Enjoy.

Now it seems pointless. I don't know if you ever player Medal of Honor: Allied Assault, but the loading pages for each level in that were "briefing" documents. Something like that would work better than emails.

How about telling us the whole story without spoilers in a nutshell? That would work better than your e-mail-style in my opinion.

Much better without the flaws but maybe try and use the medal of honor method of briefing documents. Seems like it would allow more explanation of the story without being to obvious.

Dont be disheartened by this tho, its a cool idea you just need a decent way of showing it Keep it up dude!

Make a picture of the loading screen in PDN/GIMP/Paint

Save it in gamecore/backdrops.

Go to global settings, and it'll be there (in build game options)

Personally, I go with .dds only because it stresses the GPU less than other formats. When in-game it gets compressed or something like that I've heard. Quality is more or less the same I think...
(I'm thinking all this for characters though)

A picture says a thousand words.

Err...png gives better quality... and yeah for games dds is better (for textures), as for the background go with png imo.
