Hello, I'm working on installing Dark GDK, and I noticed on that video on the home page that it says to install DirectX 9 SDK, but the August 2007 version. However, the newest one available on Microsoft.com is the November 2008. Does anyone know if instaling the newer version will create an explosion, or is this fine?

I'm just trying to get the heads up before I download a 500MB file, so if it turns out to be bad, I can hunt down the older version and download it.

Thanks guys.

You need August 2007, or you'll get linker errors because DirectPlay was removed in November 2007 and later. November 2008 is actually DirectX 10... so that won't work.

You CAN have the latest and greatest DirectX SDK installed. You just have to do a little work to get rid of the DirectPlay stuff. Basically you just need to make a dummy lib to replace the multiplayer lib. Ofcoarse then you would have to find other means for "multiplayer" functionality. It is an option.

[Edit]
Here's how I took out the DirectPlay stuff so I can keep the latest DirectX SDK:
