Hi

Check this image below, its a StarGate with lots of unwanted Polys, (All the white ones), When i try to remove them on my system, it crashed the model programme and ive tried this a few times, so would someone with a better system or more knowledge on how to remove these please have a go, and i will eMail the Object to you because my system will not let me do this.

or is there any way i can load a format in notepad and do a search and replace to remove any white polys? if possable then this will proberley be easier, but i dont know if its possable.

I made a HeightMap which i used to create it, then converted it to a 3DS Object so its only one side of the StarGate, bu i cant do the other side until i can remove the empty Pixels.

The Texture on it was ripped from a Stargate Episode with a StarGate in Space to get a realistic texture.

Blender Render of part of it, The lights are wrong, (Orange Parts), but i can fix them after.

I've beed told its too many polys for FPSC, Far too many.

I could give it a shot if Alucard can't figure it out.

My computer couldn't either, didn't really expect that many polygons.

Couldn't you just make a low-poly version and UV-map that image onto it?

I'll try to remake it then, Alucard94 said in his eMail back to me that its 1.5 Million faces, I did try a simple Circle with a Bump Map straight in DarkBasic, which from a Distance was OK, but up close just looked flat, That's why I proffered the version above because it looks more real.

Anyway, Alucard94, thanks for trying, And thanks to everyone else for your advice.

When i am Programming, I don't pay any attention to FPS rate as computers get more powerful over time so i just worry about making the gameplay good, and i don't really do modeling, so i assumed the same would apply to models, guess not

I've done a basic stargate now, but it looks nowhere near as good as my original above, Shame as i've also got an Atlantis Gate which I did with the same method, and they would look pretty good in a game.

Its about 1.5 Million because all the little grooves and indent of letters and Pattens are all prominent, unlike in the new one i've done which is a lot smaller in HD Size, but pretty much flat.

1.5 million is stupid, that'd eradicate frame rate on all but the latest PCs....

Alot of that could've been done with a good bump map...

You never make a model like that with a height map. Grab some tutorials for whatever software package you're using and learn to actually model.

Remember those old guys? They made epic renders, I think one of them was called DaVinci, and all they used was MS Paint. Sometimes it's just skill....
