not a very good title but hey I couldnt think of anything else to put

Suppose i have a variable
Myvar$
and i do this
Myvar$="This is my variable"
and i save this string to a text document
....erm [img][/img] ill think about that one (joke)
is it possible to upload this file to my site (my site is ftp enabled)
and then is it possible for sombody else to download this file
what commands would i use.

also how do you find out your own ip. can this be done with dark basic pro. any 3rdp dll files available?

no prizes for guessing that i am making a multiplayer game and am trying to overcome the whole ip address problem

There are a whole load of FTP commands already built into DBPro, look under COMMANDS > FTP COMMANDS in the help files.

If you are making a multiplayer game, this would be VERY slow though. IP addresses are a natural part of the net I'm afraid. An FTP address such as ftp://www.darkbasic.com just resolves to an IP address after all.

well in order for a multiplayer game to work one of the players needs the others ip adresses. having to find out your ip and give it to sombody else and the whole no copy and paste thing in dbpro makes putting a multiplaer game together rather anoying so, using ftp to transmit the data and getting the poragm to read a txt file and hold the ip as a string sound much easier (it does to me anyway) and transmiting 2k of data via ftp cant be that slow surely

Ian's got a TCP/IP thing that gets the computers IP address somewhere (there is also a TCP/UDP thing on the other site).

You get it by saying 'Ian, where is your IP address code thingy?', and I reply by saying 'here it is'

The 'How to use it' is at the start of the code.

One of these days, I'll get my site finished ...
(now how long have I been saying that?)

um whats the variable that stores the ip info.. is it GetLocalIP(index)? do i need to do anything to it or can i put it straight into

set net connection connection#,GetLocalIP(index)
