Hey,

I need to know, before I head off and make 30+ blood decals, how you guys like them. They will be for X10 and X9. (I've only tested working with overlays in X10)

Here's the test preview (attached jpg).
I used alot of shading and texture techniques on the blood overlay to help achieve a little more realism. Kind of a F.E.A.R. 2 Project Origins style...

Choose the type you like the best, and please post any comments/crits. Is this TGC Store worthy?

(Note, when choosing, note the detail of the blood, not the actual overlay.)

Thanks!
AaronG

Second. The first one would be good for aged blood.

Temporarly away from the Phoenix Sentry.

Thanks. Think it should be brighter?

What do you think about the quality, is it better than most or lacking in some areas?

It does need to be brighter. Other than that it looks pretty cool.

Thanks, here's an update.
I put an inner shadow around the far edges of the spatter mark, to make it seem like it's 3d, up off of the floor.

Watcha think?

Edit: And made the blood brighter, more saturated.

I think it looks good. Except it looks like a water almost. I think it may be because of the effects in X10.

Try it and take a screen in X9 to see what it looks like.

I disagree. I think they were perfect beforehand.

The first one was pure black for me, the second was great...

The third one looks like paint though...

The first two look identical to me? [edit] Ah although upon closer inspection one looks smoother than the other. I prefer the smoother one. I do like the third one though.

Yeah, I'm on my friends monitor and the first ones look completely black, the 3rd one looks fine. So, I'll find some in-between scale as to how to make them...

I wonder if normals could work on overlays?

I think that if you are wanting to make FEAR type blood decals, the new one fits quite well. Monolith's blood is very over the top and red-ish.

But for the more realistic and lack of crazy supernatural little girls, the first ones were quite well. Really, it just depends of what type of game your making and if you want to be WAY over the top or more subtle.

Okay, I see. The main problem is some people have flat screens, some people have those older, bigger ones, and most of the time people's monitors are dark because they want to conserve energy. I think I'm going to find a good in-between scale that should be good. Or, include variations of both.

Expect a MAJOR update within 3 hours.

I've gotta say, bright blood just looks terrible. It has to be a darker shade of red. After all, that's what real blood is like. (Although it can appear lighter in small doses) Bright blood just screams n00b and believe me, this is all too true. I liked the first one, the edges seemed more rounded off and it seemed to have more volume. The second one is clearly an overlay.

Well, here are some more screens, which include 2 more splats, set in a horror-esque atmosphere, this just might wet your appetite.

You need to realize that when blood is concentrated like that into a pool, it's going to be a very dark, almost black, red. I think #2 of your first screenshots looked the best and closest to how blood should look.

When blood dries out, it becomes more and more of a black color.

When blood is thinner, it has closer to an orange-red rather than solid red.

I think you should give away 5 or so for free as a teaser and sell a separate pack with 10-15 or so.

Looks amazing, definitely better than mine, I got some work to do .

Okay, I'll have some standard ambiance shots up in a few minutes. The newest BETA released 2 days ago for FPSC X10 has caused my editor to crash repeatedly for some reason, so I'm just going back to the original.

Alright, I got the crashing issue sorted out, seemed that it was the way my blood decal textures were ordered in the texturebank\user folder. Pretty weird, eh?

Well, here are two screenshots featuring full lighting, and I'm quite proud of myself, not to have an ego!

So, please, leave comments and crits!

Now remember, these pictures only feature 2 of the current 10 that I'm working on. I'm going to release one free texture in the next post following...
