Hello all, as you can see I'm new to the forums and here goes my first post. I'll be all over the place eventually, trust me.

I recently decided to dabble with model editing and animation, so I searched the internet for some time and came upon the models from Final Fantasy X. I have the models, I have the viewer, I have a bunch of "dumpers" (not sure what those are for), I have a program made for it called ToolExtract (no clue what it does either but I think the GUI designer was on LSD), and I have another program called "ffxobj.exe". When I drag and drop the .FFB character models (such as I do with the viewer), it says to input file name or drag and drop again. Drag and drop simply brings up another window with the same, so I typed in the file name and it seems I now have a .TGA file in the directory, but not a .OBJ.

I've also read somewhere that converting the .FFB files to .OBJ transfers none of the bones, thus rendering it pretty much useless for animation practice and study. However, the program being used by those users was Milkshape, whereas I am using 3DSMax and Maya.

Does anyone have any suggestions for me? I've only gotten very basic, inanimate object models but I am going to start more advanced modeling and rigging. The classes at my University are not until Fall, and I would like to get a headstart and possibly make progress before then.

Thanks so much!

why do you need to rip models from a game to learn how to model and rig ? why not just try following the tutorials that come with your software or download a few and follow them .
you will learn a lot more that way.

cheers henry
