Does anyone know how to make the Backdrop command work? Some seems to work, but the one I want to work (Texture Backdrop) doesn't.

I'd like to have a background of stars. I have the image, but is the only way to do it is by creating a huge sphere that encompasses the entire scene?

That doesn't seem to work for me.

Why have a Backdrop command in the manual and not have it work?

thanks,
john...

the big sphere problem could be that your not adjusting the camera distances .

set camera range 1,10000 as an example.

you also have to flip the sphere so that textures are on the inside.

you can do this by making the sphere inside out, creating it at - 1000 or scaling it with a negative number, switching on culling so that you can see both sides is another method but a bit slower since your always showing both sides of that sphere etc..
