release 1.03
Updated as of May 6,2009

old post:
Ah! i think this is finaly ready for a wip thread and will have a demo to download shortly...

So the last music editor i made was Qmidi and this one would be like that but much..much better!

Here is the screen shot:

I set this up so it would be like magix where you can paste music loops into the editor.... however....much better!

You have the ability to make sound loops...and paste them on the editor....and even change the key at wich it plays back at.

Nice huh?

Also you can raw edit everything.

I will have a demo shortly....maby even this weekend.

I'm a fan of Magix Music Maker so I'll definitely have to try this out. Is it being sold or free?

The interface looks odd (menus aren't menus, they're buttons). Are you using BlueGUI? Just wondering why it looks like a big ol' panel on there.

I'm not a real programmer but I play one with DBPro!

Magix is better in ways but this is different cause it uses midi and not saved wav loops.

Also yes it has blue gui all over this one...lol

The interface is very simple and easy to use....Its like paint brush except you draw in notes

Quote: "Is it being sold or free?"

Undecided....
My last music stuff was all free if you look up qmidi you can try that one out. release 1 is easier to use then release 2

Well some good news.... I just finished up the editor. Id however like to finish writting the help files before releasing it. I had alot of people last time that couldnt figure out how copy/paste worked or how to get pitch modifation working. I did make it realy simple to use but id like to have the help there in case you guys need it.

I will probly release this next weekend.
Also i just added keyboard support. You can now plug in a real keyboard and use it to record music.

the only output formats supported will be Qm4/Wav/Mp3

Anyways i'll keep everyone posted!

Wow! I absolutely did not think DBP could accomplish something like this, but looks like you managed to. Personally, I do think the interface needs to be improved a bit though.

Thanks...and yes it does need some work. But the nice thing about it is that it works + sounds very nicely

SATCHMO: You used my old qmusic v3 i believe? This has almost the same interface accept using real midi instead of wav sounds.

The best feature so far i think is the ability to use a real music keyboard to record off of. Also the paint brush like editor rocks.

And to top everything off i just added the ability to create music loops and paste them anywhere and play them back at different keys:

example:
When you select a loop.... roll the scroll mouse button to change the play back pitch(key) ... up for higher and down for lower while listening to it adjust rightaway....then when it sounds the way you want it you just paste it.

That will be one of the funnest parts to this editor is just gunna be creating music loops.

BTW I like your new logo

Very nice, but one thing. When loading a song, the load box would open up again after clicking open, and I would have to click cancel a lot to keep it closed.

Very nice video.

One thing that hit me by surprise was the ability to save music loops! I think that could be very useful. One thing though... will you bring back 16 track editing for the full version?

i can bring at least 5 more tracks at max.

Only because the editor is using a few of them for playback. eg external keyboard uses a track/music loop play back uses its own track/ And the editor demo sounds uses 1 track.

Also more tracks means more cpu time.....but qmidi did 10 tracks ok so i couldnt see why this editor couldnt do the same.

Ill code in 5 more tracks in the next week

@ SMD,

This is excellent.

Presumably the finished product will export to those core formats you mention above? Presumably in the finished product you can unlock those other instruments as well?

What about price for the finished product? and release date? You seem to be almost there with the program...

a long time dabbler with DBC and DBPro with no actual talent but lots of enthusiasm...

Well as it stands the editor (full release) will have all functionality mentioned above.

It does record to wav files with some setup first that is documented in the help files. Its the only known way to record midi music to a wav file. After its in a wav file you can export any wav files to mp3 files with the free wav to mp3 converter.

I will be unlocking the mp3 export on the demo aswell cause i dont want people thinking that thats what they are buying. The lamemp3 encoder is free and is simply supplied and thats it.

The wav recording works in the demo but only records 160 PlayBar positions.

Also an un documented thing on this editor is the ability to plug in your usb (piano keyboard) for recording input to the editor.

-TO USE A PIANO KEYBOARD
if you have pressure sensitive keys on your keyboard it will have to be disabled.
If the keys do not play you may have to recalibrate the keyboard fix file. If you delete the keyboard.fix file then it will prompt you to recalibrate your piano keyboard.

**I have not been able to test any other make of keyboard other then the one i have**

Tested +works: Casio lk-220 (needs sensitive keys turned off to work)

The final release will be free! (updated march 22,09)

you will need to submit an email to me to register still so i have an idea how many users there are.

What im working on adding in:
-More external Keyboard support(piano keyboard)
-5 more music tracks to edit
-more recording to wav options
-free music loop packs

Any more questions id be glad to answer them

News:
I just got a 5 Star Award from www.dltube.net for this software.
QmusicV4 is now listed with several shareware sites including cnet.

I look forward to making more updates to the software as well as making some more music loop packs.

You should make a "QGuitar" or "QTabber" program that lets you do guitar, bass, and drum tabs (of course including all the instruments). If you did that I could actually convert Soothsayer, by Buckethead into a demo for your prog.

Sorry, random note completely unrelated. I think QMusic and QMidi are great.

Cheers,

I think im good for midi files.... i also have the original darkbasic midi collection i can test through as well.

Once the midi import is working correctly i think it will be alot easier to create the midi save feature.

If anyone knows about the midi file format structure that could help out....that would be great!

Im having trouble with the delta time / tempo speeds.

The big issue with the delta times are that they are written as an arbitrary amount of bits, not bytes, so you'll have to do some bit shifting to get them right. I never got around to get that to work, but if you are persistent, it should probably be possible.

Basically it goes like this:
7 bits - makes up for 128 different time stamp values. If the eight bit is 1, then continue to read the following 7 bits and append to your value (bits = bitset1 + (bitset2 * 2^7) and so on). This continues until the eight bit of a read byte is zero, and after that the relevant midi message follows.

I decided to leave out midi file support since im adding wav file support into the editor. The main recording function to wav will be it.

I added 32note editing and a bunch of new features

I will have a new beta download for everyone tonight...
Also the registration stuff is now deleted and will not be required in the next update
