I guess you wanted explicit alpha on this one.

Thats because you didnt save it correctly. There is a specific dds file type that supports transparency.

You can also apply a .JPG texture to an object and hit test game...it seems to convert the image into .dds for you. It's what I did for one of my games a while back.

You DON'T have to use dds converter! It is so simple. Just open it up with MS paint (microsoft paint) then press "save as" then put it in the FPSC directory and type in whatever name you want then at the end add ".dds"

I can't texture. I'm not an artist.

Sorry, but changing the file extension on a file does not change the type file it is. You have to convert the file to a dds type, not just rename it. It will rename just fine, but it will still be a jpg with a bad name.

Lol, like what xplosys said, you can't just rename the extension to .dds, or anything for the matter, because all file types have a special "encoding", that stores the data, understand, try opening a .jpg with notepad, and open a .dds with notepad and compare the text, quite different aren't they.

I saw the vid, and I know that it will rename just fine, but it's still a jpg because you did not convert it. Try renaming it .pig or .cat or .monkey. That won't turn it into a .monkey file. You just renamed it. I'm sorry if you cannot understand that.

Best.

I tried the .monkey thing and it didn't work. It just renamed it to a hamster001.monkey BUT if you save it as a REAL file format, it WILLwork.

And to think we've been wasting money on expensive programs all these years. If we wanted to create a PDF, all we had to do was rename out TXT file. From now on, I can just rename those 3ds model files to .x, and if my client needs a high resolution file of his logo for printing, I'll just rename the GIF file on his website to PSD!

I wouldn't go spreading this secret around though. There is a lot of money in some of these high end software titles, and if they find out that you are cutting out their profits, well..... I can't say what they might do to you. Just saying.

Best.

changing the extension only changes the extension so all programs think its dds but the structure stays jpg so some applications like irfanview will tell you its a jpg with a fake extension

You are correct. I noticed that this thread was still up here, and was about to mention the Infranview thing.

Overall, Fpscr will figure it out.....eventually. lol.

FPScreator automatically converts all non-dds images to dds images on run. So it might be converting the fake dds to real dds in the background giving the perception that the rename method is working.

Funny stuff, xplosys
