Hey! I'm not asking for code on exactly how to make 3D effects (explosions, fire, etc.) but more along the lines on how they are made. I'm used to making 2d effects with particles so are they done the same way by using particles and just adding a z value instead of x and y or is there more behind it.

P.S. An example would be helpful but i'm not asking for one

Well, I have worked on a 3d particle engine before, thought it's not far from working on 2d. What I did was I just made the particles display on a flat surface. Then I just rotated the surface according to where the player is. So, it always looks like you are staring at the front of a fire.

I hope I helped.
