Houdini looks to be a heavy weight application, but for the price (free, or $99 for the slightly less restricted version), it seems amazing.

At that price it's for non-commercial use, but it's not like I'm looking to use it for any money making exercises anyway.

I only dug up a short thread on it from about 6 years ago, and wondered if anyone had used any of the more recent versions.

In the short term, I think I'm going to download the free version and see how I get on.

I think it's one of those apps that's used for esoteric special effects on lots of big budget movies - but has a reputation of being extremely complicated to use that only uber-techy folks can understand, rather than aimed at traditional 3D artists.

But, I've heard in recent versions that the UI has gotten a complete new overhaul to make it more of an artist friendly app.

I've heard similar things that bond brought up. But it probably is a very powerful app.

Think they have been doing some videos over at 3dbuzz.com, not played with it myself though.

I give ip with thos baner fing as it never seems to work for me. I woll now stop wasting mu time.
