Hey guys, I haven't been around here for a while, but I wanted to share the good news that my FPSC game Cry of the Infected is being published! The Noviy Disc company will be selling it in retail stores across Eastern Europe and Russia starting this month. A representative from ND first contacted me almost a year ago, and it has taken this long for the game to actually make it to stores. I have learned a lot about the publishing process, and the amount of work that goes into it is staggering.

If you are looking to get your game published, the main piece of advice I would give to you is to test your game like crazy. Test every square inch of your levels multiple times, while doing different things. Publishers want your game to be error-free, and the smallest glitch is unacceptable. We all know that FPSC can have its fair share of glitches from time-to-time, so quality control is essential. The publishing of Cry of the Infected got held up for an additional two months because the publisher's QCQA staff found that if you saved your game along this one tiny 2-segment long corridor that the enemy in the next room would be invisible. They actually saved and loaded the game every few inches across every level to check for these types of bugs, along with hundreds of other tests.

Also if you have any textures with english text on them, make sure to save the original layered photoshop files, as some publishers will want to translate this text. I had to recreate many of the textures for Cry of the Infected because of this!

Those are the most important things I came across. Let me know if you have any other questions and I will do my best to answer them.

Cry of the Infected is also still available through my website for only $4, and there is a new demo that comprises the first four levels of the game. Click here to go to the site.

Thanks for looking!

Awesome! This is fantastic and inspiring news for people thinking that FPSC is not capable of commercial games. It is very capable.

Cool looking game, too! The lip syncing in the trailer was kind of cheesy, but the actual game footage looked pretty cool.

Congratulations!

Good luck on selling it off the shelves...

Congrats. I always had faith that a good game developer could do something with FPSC!

Cool, and good job!

Sadly, even with a publisher, you've got a lot to compete with these days. You may get a few buys from people looking for a cheap game but I imagine most gamers attracted to shooters these days are more likely to save their money for things like Halo and Killzone. Maybe you'll get lucky though

Thanks guys!

This will probably be my last FPSC game. I have two kids now, and I am working extra hours to keep paying the bills, so I haven't had time to work on any new FPSC projects in over 6 months.

And it looks like this publishing deal is getting some attention, as I just had another company express interest in distributing the game in a different location!

As of right now it will only be in retail stores in Eastern Europe and Russia. But if it sells well there it could definitely expand into other markets.

What I was oftenly thinking about the last days is...

Do you have to make sure your game gets a correct "official" age rating or does the publisher have to do that?
