I am making a 3D slot machine game in DBP. I have three, 10 face reels and the handle. I can pull the handle, spin the reels, do all the randoms and math and stop reels spinning - all visuals and mechanics are perfect. Now I want to keep the current credits on the screen but I am not sure how to go about it. Text and Print commands get wiped off the screen because of the 2d/3d conflict thing. So then i was going to use images or bitmaps or sprites derived from the actual underlying credit variable value but I am having no luck as I am not very experienced at certain things in dbp. Can anyone give advice or an example of how I could keep numeric values on the screen when using 3d? My last option which I haven't tried yet is to make 10 flat 3d objects, skinned with bitmaps of 0,1,2....9 then load and unload in varying orders as single digits to represent the underlying number of credits.

Thanks in advance
any help or pointers are much appreciated

I don`t understand your problem, you can just update your text at the sync can`t you?, like this.

Cheers.

Mentor,

I guess I will try what you said but I wasn't doing sync manually. I don't remember having to in dbc, I made a 3d black jack game and threw sprites up there saying "Dealer Wins" or "PUSH" and didn't have to sync manually or deal with backdrop stuff (it's been a while so please forgive me) Anyway, I will play with my code but others are welcome to chime in - thanks mentor, and all others in advance.

Thanks

At the end of the main loop, just use the text command to position and display your text. That way it gets contantly refreshed.

for some reason if you leave the autosync to do the job the text flickers or gets overwritten, I personaly never use anything other than sync on:sync rate x (x being normaly 0), the default autosync can slow your code up massivley when you are doing "off screen" calculations (it insists on doing sync x times per second even if the screen has not changed and the loss of speed is MASSIVE), best to do your own sync commands, far more predictable and your code runs faster too.

Thanks, now I understand. I am assuming that this will allow me to deal with sprites as well as text.

thanks again
