here's my game:
Experiment Six is an FPS in which you are playing as a scientist, the creator of a super-smart military robot. The robot goes out of control, and starts rampaging. you have to reach the control room under the facility and disable the robot before it does a lot of damage.

I am making it in DBC (yes, I know how hard it is to make an FPS), and I am making the levels in Sketchup because I am too lazy to buy max.
(also, sketchup doesn't look half bad when have good textures, and lots of particles.)

screenshots in download.

Complete Storyline:

Helicon Robotics, a company recognized for their high-tech military robots, has just perfected their latest series of highly intelligent machines. Everything is perfect: the tests are going well, and there are no problems…or so you hope. Everything must go perfectly for you, the designer of the x6, the most powerful robot in the series.
It is 2:09 AM on March 17, 2010 when you get the call. The x6 is out of control! A fatal bug in the robot’s programming has caused it to abandon all reason and have only one thought: to destroy… Now it’s up to you: you have twenty-four hours to reach the control room and disable the robot, or who knows what might happen…

The screenshots don't show much (any) gameplay, but it looks good nonetheless. If I were you I would've waited until I had a little more progress--weapons, simple AI, something along the lines of that.

yeah, well I was excited that level one finally worked.

time for guns...and more enemies (besides a rotating rocket launcher and giant walls that crush you.)
I was mostly working on the core engine.

look at the giant wall of death!(screeny)

You're too lazy to buy max? Did you mean 3DS Max? and you're too lazy?! I bet you don't have the money yet, don't ya
Hard work pays off in the future. Laziness pays off now.

Anyhoot, I like the textures. Your level design looks promising. If you managed to do this in sketchup, where I never understood how to make a cube, I wonder what you could make in a "real" level design tool, like 3DWorldStudio. (No idea if it's supposed to be three words or one word).

Btw, are you The Nerd in disguise, or a completely new member to this forum?

I am really too lazy and I don't have the money and I never got max. Sketchup is easier for me.
Yes, I mean 3DS Max.

No, I am not The Nerd, I am thenerd.

I spent all my money on:
1. DB
2. An external hard drive
3. DarkMatter
4. A video card

Lol i'm doing the same except on:

1. Dark Physics
2. Dark Lights
3. Video Card
4. 4gb Ram

but what the hell, i like programming and to do that i need to upgrade my computer so whats the difference between buying a needed part of programming and a baseball bat for baseball? lol

Anyway, game looks interesting! Especially the spike wall lol

I'm poetry in motion

Oh, and I forgot Number Five: Photoshop! (the awesomest sofware ever)

Also, let's just say I am having some creative difficulties. I need enemies, but the one thing I am not good at in Sketchup is characters.
That is why there is no AI - I have no models for the enemies!

not the version I bought, and the enemies are robots. I can use Dark Matter characters for human NPC's, but I'm out of luck for robots.

time for weapons...tommorow. Now I will sleep.

hehe, Im wasting money on
1. GTA4 (pc)
2. Braid (pc)
3. Dark Physics
4. new keyboard, because I recently broke mine.

This looks pretty cool, I look foward to seeing it being further developed.

I wish I had access to board 17.

I debilitated my wallet on various goods such as the "Ultimate Game Creators Pack 2006" or whatever it was called, various other plugins and also 3DWS; Photoshop CS3 I got for free from work, as well as a few other applications that I found useful at the time.

Not certain if I'm alleged to keep them installed though: as I no longer work there.
Now I have bought a car, been tossed out of my apartment; currently having no money and a most dreadful job I sleep on a mattress at my parents house. Hooray! The girls are going to love that (wait, what girls?).

Anyway, The Nerd is a member who joined in 2004 or something, but recently left. I just thought you were him, trying to do a come-back, but forgot your password and decided to create a new profile. But you were not, so that's that.

My best humanoid-like 3d model is a box with limbs. However, I later replaced the box with a cylinder. It worked as a temporarily A.I. character; but then I got bored of using it. Anyway, I was implying that you make a box character like that as well, unless you find a 3d modeler.

Good luck!

@Lukas W,
I will do that with the moving enemies, but I think I finally made a good model for a static enemy.
Time to add a crowbar (copied from HL2)

Just make sure you don't release the game with the crowbar in it.

Looks interesting btw.

yeah, I think Sketchup is good because it is easy to extrude, bend or shape anything, and the texture tools are easy to use.

Awesomeness! This makes me want to get back to DBC and push its limits, but I'm afraid I've been using DBPro for too long now and will instantly crave for the UDTs.

Is that electrical beam animated?

Looks decent. Hard to say without seeing a gamplay vid.

You'll find people are reluctant to download things, even if it is just 3 zipped screenshots. If you want more replies, i'd suggest hosting some images somewhere and making them appear in the thread without anyone having to click anything. I use photobucket.

I think you should look into using lightmapping. Will make your levels look a lot nicer.

yes, I will try photobucket...

DBC doesn't support lightmapping.

(edit) how do you take a video of the game?
I know there are programs, but I can't afford to spend money on a good one that takes videos. (I have Print Screen Deluxe, but it
doesn't have support for taking vids)

I'm getting a YouTube account.

I think you can do lightmapping in DBC. Even if there is no multitexturing, blendmapping or shader stuff, you can have two objects for your level, each with the same geometry, but different uv maps and textures. One you can scale a bit smaller (about the camera), and dark ghost. I think Giles can export your level as two objects (or two sets of objects). I'm learning it at the moment.

Try searching the forum. I guess it's just cosmetic fluff though- you should concentrate on doing what you're doing at the moment- forget i mentioned it.

You can record your gameplay with FRAPS. Trial version only allows you to record 30 second clips, but that's long enough to show people.

This forum's file hosting isn't grea in my experience - especially if you have slow internet. You might want to try hosting it on Mediafire or something. That way someone who's not a member of the forum can download it as well if they want.

still haven't uploaded a demo, but I have got a new idea:
Achievements!
ideas:
CROWBAR LUNACY: beat the game with just the crowbar...nothing else!
FWOOSH:light 10 enemies on fire!
BOMBS AWAY:drop an item on an enemy
HEADS UP:hit an enemy in the head with a sniper in one shot
ANTI-AIRCRAFT:destroy the rescue helecopter (don't worry, another will come)
PARTY POOPER:stop the missiles from launching and destroy the x6

Now is better than never.

Hard?
that's why it's an achievement.

Here are some screenshots of the menu. (sorry, I haven't gotton a photobucket account yet)
I am working on the general style. Tell me if the style is good, or too boring?
