Looks cool. The high poly looks like you just added smoothing/turbosmooth lol. Perhaps arranging with smoothing groups would make the high poly turn out better?

It would be more interesting to see this with some type of texture on it. the first one looks a little better than the second. Reason is, the second is to smooth were it should have some type of definative edges making it look sharp, the SDS just makes it look like it was made from playdow, even the first one could be fixed up a little more.

If you are going to subdivide (which is unnecessary) only subdivide the handle.

The model is good, try texturing it.

I'm going to try and start breaking my no posting habit!

Its a good base model, the proportions look good.
The only issues I have are some of the positioning of the vertices and axe blades.

The handle below the blades seems to be offset a bit, unless that was intentional. Also the blade on the right is a tad higher than the one on the left.
There are a few other issues with the vertices at the top of the handle, but other than that it looks good.

I suggest using this base model to slowly add more detail.

You seem to have "added detail" to the handle by just using simple extrude-and-scale's, which sure does make it a bit different and I like that you actually shaped the handle rather well but I'd suggest adding some more customized details to the handle. Seeing as axes don't have that many different parts too them you can really detail the few parts that there are. Keep it up.
