Hi all,
Sorry to see that someone has been claiming they made these. Indeed an Egyptian figure, a rhino, and a laser rifle are all free objects that come along with trueSpace7.6.
If you wanted to place those objects in your game, modified or unmodified, then we would be fine with that so long as proper credit is given. Claiming you made them, though, is quite another thing.
Also, reselling them just as models would not be acceptable, since we give them away for free. We don't want people taking those models, wrapping them up and selling them for their own profit, as they'd be exploiting people who could have got them for free, as is our intention!
Mostly the models are included for inspiration, or so you can have a look at how they were made, or to demonstrate a feature (the ones listed here are intended to demo the use of normal maps inside the trueSpace real-time engine, for instance).
So, while we would need proper credit and not want you claiming them as your own, if you did include them in a game of yours then that would be ok (as then you would be promoting / selling your game, not our content). One thing though, your game would be a bit generic if you just lifted these models (or any other free ones) and dropped them in, so we would suggest that you'd be doing yourself proper credit if you create your own

By all means use the free ones as a starting point or a guideline, but certainly make it unique.
We hope people like the free software and the small collection of models that comes with it, and hope they get some benefit from them - but don't post them and claim you made them, that is an infringement of copyright.
If you want these models for yourself, just go grab a copy of trueSpace (and get a fully featured free modeling application thrown in to boot!)

Sorry to see this cropped up. We'd also like to say thanks to the great community here for taking care of the situation, and drawing our attention to it.
I can be reached by email at
[email protected] if anyone has any questions on the fair use of these models etc. Now - everyone back to making games
Thanks!
Tom
