For the past few months I have measured the performance of my game using models of 900 or so polygons. This allowed me to reach a speed of about 33 fps with all the other workloads and cycles in the program.

I experemented with 2500 poly models and my fps rate doubled!!! No kidding! I didn't expect that. Now I'm jumping for joy. DBP is great!!!

!!!

Tell me your secret great one, for I shall require that speed for my own projects with high poly counts!

Interesting, has there been a change in the model construction? Perhaps it is now adding several LODs to the model?

DBP does not do auto LODs.

but did you have very laaaaaaaaaarge textured polys in your old models? 3d engines (this applies to any engine) do not like large polys, or polys with the texture scaled up very large (so the texture repeats many many times across the poly). this is about the only thing i can think of why the poly count would jump.

but from the poly count i'm assuming these models are characters and therefore wouldn't be large in the first place. hm..

i'm looking at yooooou!

Get this straight - It is true!!!

I jumped for joy and cheered. Trust me!

No, I did not use massive textures. I reduced all my textures to aid programing. I think 128 x 128 was the maxi. I texture wrapped the new object with the old anyway so that should not be an issue.

I still have a limit of how many polygons I can have of course, its just higher poly models worked better !!!???

can you post a link to the two different models you used to test this theory (one low res, one high res) so that we may also run a test?
