I use Maya 2008/2009 at Uni and would love to be able to export my work to a DirectX file so that I can import into DBP. However, my online searches have all provided the same two results:

1. Use PandaX exporter
2. There is a plugin in the DirectX SDK

However, neither of these responses are of any use to me because:

1. I can't find a PandaX exporter for anything other than 3DS Max
2. Not in my version (the latest) there isn't

So, does anyone know of a way to export a 'fully animated' DirectX object from Maya?

Thanks

You can do it using MEL script.

I can't remember where I found it, I think it might actually be on the maya plugins page directly.

It's a bit of a (*&*( to use.

Have you considered using the FBX exporter to get it out as an Animated FBX file, then converting from FBX to X using Milkshape or even 3DS?

I've had similar nightmares as a maya 8.5 user.

If you're asking this with regards to the Helicopter/Hoverthing I'd be happy to give it a shot.

I want robotic legs.

I have tried using FBX to transfer it to 3DS Max so that I could use Panda exporter to export it. The trouble is FBX doesn't seem to like instances (easy to change) or joints (not so easy).

Yes, it is for the Helicopter/Hoverthing (I call it a SubHeliCraft). If you think you can help then I will gladly send the model your way.

Thanks

PolyTrans-for-Maya

I am using the max version, and actually what you see is what you really get in Dbpro even with the correct left handed coordinates.

There is always one more imbecile than you counted on.

Thanks PolyTrans is a good solution but not a cheap one
I was thinking more in the price range of £zero - £not much.

I've been looking for a solution for this since I started using Maya a while ago, still haven't found anything too useful. If I really want something in .X I tend just to export into another software and then just export again from there. Tiresome if you're working with more than one model but meh, only thing that I've found that works.
