Hey all Ive been looking for a good world editor. Something that is professional price isnt really a problem. Also it would be best if it looked great and could be imported into a DBP project.

So far i haven't been interested in

3D World Studio

T.ED

Maplet

Cartography shop

any others you know of?

Thanks

Freeworld3D Does look very nice, but if you want ease of use with DBPro, 3D World Studio would probably be my choice.

Try out the demos etc.

It may be good to know that I've experienced many problems with FreeWorld3D, probably due mostly to incompatibility with my video card. Also, IrrEdit is a scene-graph editor made with and for Irrlicht and so AFAIK it only exports to .irr which is Irrlicht's scene-graph file format, and it may be difficult importing this into DBP.

As for what editor you should use, it all comes down to your game. If your game is primarily indoors then you're probably going to make extensive use of CSG and so 3DWS is just about your only option. Otherwise Map-Scape is great, free, and it's made with DBP which is a plus.

Actually it exports .OBJ, .XML and .DAE as well so it really would not be too difficult to convert these.

I've looked into and tried out the freeworld3d myself. From what I see, it is not different then T.ed, The main purpose is for terrain and environment setup. Problem is the demo lacks textures and what not. so testing it is somewhat useless. Personally before I buy this software, I would want a simple demo that could be loaded in dbpro so I would be able to see if what im buying is going to be compatible.

You could also try Deled, They are expecting to release version 2 any day now. Version 2 I guess is going to be a feature update with some very useful tools, they have added simple animation to the package, which is going to be rather handy for animating things like doors, windows, ceiling fans and so on. However, although it is bone based animation, it will only be basic animation and does not have features yet such as weight painting. It is going to be best used for mechanical animation.

Like I mentioned earlier I would download the demo beforehand despite the fact that it doesn't come with textures, because I had a lot of problems with it, namely with the terrain geometry getting very messed up.

Wow, I forgot I actually had a license for Freeworld from two years ago. Never reinstalled it on my computer. Thanks for the reminder lol!

Free world is pretty good. It takes a little while to get the license emailed to you though. Make sure the forum is active still.

I think I made a heightmap from it to get the terrain into DBP.

the main reason ive never used stuff like this is because i prefer to actually create the land myself. it gives you the freedom of adding cliffs and caves straight into it rather then having to do it separately. plus its rather easy to create land in cinema4D because of the base one it gives you.

although i didn't know that irredit was that limited in exporting.
