EDIT: At the moment I've been using the trial version of max.

I've been looking around the internet for a version of 3DS Max which isn't as expensive as the new 2009 version. Preferably above Max 7. Does anyone know any good websites that do cheap old software?

If this is the wrong board then sorry.

Thanks,
Jack

The only available version of Max is the current one, unless you are a student where you can purchase a liscene for I think a year but there are restrictions.

There used to be a version called Gmax though I am unsure if this is still available, again it is restricted.

I give ip with thos baner fing as it never seems to work for me. I woll now stop wasting mu time.

Yeah I've heard of and used GMax however it was buggy and didn't work well for me. I might try ebay, see if there any lower version being sold on there.

What's the license restrictions for the Perpetual version? Like, I know that with the Student version ou can't sell anything you make with it, and the commercial version you can, but what about Perpetual?

I know I've seen older versions on Amazon and Ebay...by is it legal to transfer license between two partys? I'd look it up first...

Besides...why do you need a nuclear plant like Max when there are windmills like Blender and Truespace that are free, do the same job and are cleaner?

As far as I know the license is not transferable.

Unless your really serious about going into 3D as a carear I would stick to the free stuff, yes Max is a VERY powerfull piece of software used through out the games industry, but for 95% of the time you will only use about 10% at most of its power.

If you can afford it then fine, but you honestly dont need it. There is very little that cant be done with the free stuff.

I give ip with thos baner fing as it never seems to work for me. I woll now stop wasting mu time.

And the function list, phew Ive used Nurbs 3 times and real motion/ i think it is called that//the physics animations// only three times, that water water a car and a cloth lol. Still it rocks.
