Hi all,

You can now download a new beta test of Upgrade 5 (v3) and report your findings in our new Bug Reports board. Do NOT post your findings here, put them in the Bug Reports board, or expect them to be purged out daily.

I've been waiting months for these "upgrades". Hope this one works out better than the last...

Oh yeah I've been away for a bit, sorry about that!

Hi,

I'm just wondering why all the betas have watermarks and expire - since they don't work on the demo then it'd be logical to assume most people using it would have paid for the software - why give them watermarks?

Already found a few things not fixed when they said they were fixed!

Interesting to see limit removed from MAKE MATRIX. You can now have GIANT matrics. Things go a trifle slow with a 1000 X 1000 tile matrix though!

Problem - I ran a project that used 3D, and the screen didnt do anything. I know the project was running because I could hear the music and what not, but the screen didnt even go black, I was looking at my desktop. I could control the players an everything (I could hear footsteps) but nothing was on screen. It was liek I was running the EXE minimized, only still controlling it!

I tested

Do
Print "hello world"
Loop

Which worked, but nothing 3D did.

I know its not my code - I tried the room demo, same deal.

You got DX9 installed?, plus also make sure that you've got the latest video drivers for your card. This update should work, I've been using it without any problems.

MSI/AMD Athlon 1300, 256Mb, 60GbHD, SoundBlaster Live!, GeForce 4 MX440-64Mb, Win2K, DX9, DarkBASIC Pro(PUv4.1)

RPGamer,

You might have to upgrade you video drivers. When I did the DX update without updating to lastest Geforce4 drivers I got screen glitches and game crashes. I updated my drivers and everythings has been working since.
That was beta 2 of course, only just got beta 3.

um you don't, read the install warning page that tells you to back up your DBPro directory before installing Beta. There is a reason for that warning, you can't uninstall beta.

Yup. You'll need to uninstall completely, then reinstall and repatch.

What's the problem with that? The official release will appear before the beta expires anyway

Question:

I read in issue 6 of the newsletter that you will be able to create an object with a light source (read - being able to make an object glow).

Would this count towards the 7 lights at a time limit?

Thanks in advance.

I think you are thinking of specular of an object, and it is seperate of the 7 light sources. But I don't think it is an actual light. In other words objects close to it will not also glow.

Daz, there is a new FX file which makes an object look like its glowing but it isn't actually a light source and will not light any other object.

Its DBDN only at the moment i believe, though it will be released with a whole host of other shaders when U5 is released, which is very close now.
