I have so many ideas for all of them. Like things going greyscale when you're about to die, or that awesome Fallout 3 overbloom you get when you escape Vault 101...

Hey, CoZ. For DoF, remember that objects in the level will need to pass their depth information to the full screen DoF. They seem to be able to do this through their alpha channel.

CoZ, I'd love to get my hands on those shaders.

That watercolour shader'll give rise to a bunch of stylised games...

Looks pretty cool, but everything's blurred, doesn't DoF only blur areas around a certain distance, like real life focusing?

Well, after a recently got my glasses (Been without glasses for 24 years of my life, go figure lol) nothing in reality seems blurred at all, though it may just be my facination with how sharp everything looks now that I can see better.

I think DoF should more subtle. Like it should take a LOT more distance to cause even a slight blur.

Yeh, I hate it when I drop my glasses. You can see DoF in real life though. Try watching TV, then putting something right in front of your eyes, if you passively look at the TV, (without focusing on it), you can see that it's blurred...

Right, but that's only in an extreme. It seems that the DoF I've seen changes from focused to blurred in such a short distance.

There's sort of two reasons for blurriness in life.

#1 is myopia(nearsightedness) where your focal range is short making things in the distance blurred (as an offshoot of eye problems astigmatism can give nice bloom/light-flare artifacts).

#2 is like CG said when your are focusing on something in the distance. Combat shooting is done sort of like that where the shooter focuses on the target and the gun sights (mainly the rear sight) are ghosted/blurred.

That said, without my glasses the last pic looks pretty real to me LOL. It would be interesting to play a game where you loose you glasses and have to find them in the blurriness

if you are concetrate at a thing say a cop of thea, you will noticed that everything around is blurred

EDIT: they are a bit odd thought the shaders.. The dof shader doesnt seem to work well and the bumpbone shader works like "making a barby" seeing the first couple of screens other then that i like the painting shader (althought i use a oher methode for that , but your shader is much better) then you water colored isnt that noticible, if it gives a blueblurred wave on screen, you can achieve that with huds... but nice work and keep it up

PS: @ Red Eye: Why bother using a work around with HUDS when you can just use full screen shaders...seems a bit pointless to me.

So you're basically taking credit for the DarkShader Effects, which probably were just modified using the interface?

If you already admitted, that they're modified DarkShader Effects, then I'm sorry, otherwise it's pretty silly, to write you're name with a copyright note on top of each shader, while they're orignally made by others.

@GOH Doomster: Im not taking credit for anything I shouldnt etc. I stated a long while back that I either a) Develop my own or b) USe/edit existing Dark Shader effects. The reason I changed the copyright note is because I played around with the TEXCORDS beforehand and thought Id change some stuff. But I then changed it back after realising that it was better before the change and didnt change the copyright note back. If you feel strongly about this matter, I will happily take the shaders down, change the copyright notices back and then re-upload. Your call.

Yeah, then you still should give a bit credit to the original shaders, eg. "Original by X modified by Y", it would avoid such comments.

Thanks for the clarification.

@CoZ:

I, too, feel that if any alterations you made to the shaders were reverted back to their original form, you should give credit or make a note stating where they came from. I wouldn't want any more people making a fuss about this.

@Everyone:

NOTICE:

At this point in time, there are NO releases of Project Blue or Ply's Mod that have been made publicly available capable of using these full screen shaders. If you are in possession of such a Mod and I have not given it to you personally, you may not use it and should delete it right away. If I have given you such a Mod, do not redistribute it. By using a Mod given by me, you are under verbal license and understand that by using this Mod I will not be held responsible for any damage that may have been caused due to it's usage (improper or otherwise).

The next beta release of Ply's Mod (and hopefully the next beta of Project Blue) will have this capability, so it would be best to wait until then, so as to ensure that any current bugs that we are aware of have been ironed out.

Thank you, that is all.

Not too fond of the full screen shaders, most of them look sort of like real-time photoshop-filters. Save for the greyscale and DOF-shader, they look like they could come in handy.

I guess they're useful for drug/artistic effects...

And that's why I vouched for making any of the full screen shaders optional in the Mod.

ohkay.. I just wish we are able to utilize this soon.I desperately need these for a game I am currently making and it will be perfect for the storyline. for eg. the first part of my game starts with the player under a sort of poison running in him, so the edge detect could be used here. Then we have normal game play. Then the next part is played in flash-back so one could use the grayscale thing.. huh lets see when we are able to use these !

If it's a drug effect you're looking for, I think you'd enjoy seeing the "low health" effect I made combining randomized motion blurring with a few other features

Here's a vid of the "Low Health" effect that I made.

There's still a big glitch with the full screen shader system that has yet to be resolved, but it's pretty much invisible in this video.

Enjoy!

Thanks, guys. The effect is definitely disorienting when you crank it up. The blurring in itself isn't what makes the effect so great. Your view also wobbles a bit (kinda like when you're aiming through a scope) and the fov moving in and out definitely sends up a red flag to the player saying "Find some health FAST!"

I suppose you could have an all black HUD that covers the entire screen slowly fade slightly in and out, as if the player was about to black-out. That would be pretty cool, too.

Pixel Shader 3 works with my ATi card, it just depends if it has support for that or not.

Normally the booklet included with your GPU will tell you what PS/VS version it supports.

These shaders don't look too complex, I'm sure you can make them compatible with the shader 2 model, it would allow more people to use them.

So, the full-screen shaders aren't utilitized with the current mods as of this time?

But they look great, that's all that matters, because that means they'll get better and then be released, so keep up the good work you guys.
