That's more like it, but I'd be happy with a bottom/middle of the range GeforceFX ... actually, which leads me to a new post ...

I'd buy a new computer.

Heh, my parents gave me $500 for my last birthday, my grandma gave me $50, and my friends gave me a total of $150 together. Total I got $650 for my last birthday. So I bought a new computer. Here is a comparison chart:

Old Computer:
200 Mhrz Pentium Processor
32 MB Ram
200 MB Harddrive
No video card (dont even think they were around when I got my comp)
15" Monitor

New Computer:
1.3 Ghrz Celeron Processor
128 MB Ram (When I bought it, now 512 MB Because of christmas present)
40 GB Hardrive (Really a 32 GB Hardrive, with 8 GB partitioned off for backup)
4 MB Intel Graphics Video Card
14" Monitor

Yep, for $650, I got a pretty sweet upgrade.

Edit: Oops, brain isnt working tognight, make that $700 for my birthday.

I could buy new hardware, but I dont need a new machine. I've got a sturdy 2.2 P4. What hardware though? I know my GFX card is a bit dated, but the rest is ok. Dont want to spend 500 nicka on a graphics card though.

That's decent . The graphics card is awful of course, and that's a bit skimpy on the hard drive, but the processer is better than mine and for that much money it's prolly a good buy... congrats...

No way, I cant develop anything halfway decent on this thing. You know my SpaceCop demo? I couldnt get more than 15 FPS on it . Ran about 40 FPS on my bros comp, and 30 on my parents. I've got the worst computer in the house. Plus, my video card isnt entirely DirectX 9 compatible. So unless my parents actually upgrade my video card, getting DBPro will be in vain, since by the time I do get it, upgrade 5 will be out, so no way I can use it. But chances of my parents getting me a new video card that wont be obselete in a few months are pretty slim. Not to mention I think they've forgotten I've asked for an upgrade for my birthday.

...

Sorry for complaining so much, but I'm really tired at the moment and need some sleep.

Yeah, the catch is, I'm supposed to be spending this money on uni fees and stuff, but that's what an overdraft is for, obviously. It's make far more sense to blow it all at once on something I really don't need.

Well since I am getting a brand new, shiny, slick "Radeon 9200 Spahhire" video card for my bday (sept 15) if I had 500 I would blow it on a new p4 processor and mother board.

@omega: Thats exactly wats up with my pc too man! Ur not alone It cant even run any games made in db pro. I have to go to my friends house, to play a lot of games i have to review for my new site. ( cause he has a pretty high end pc)

NWC, part of the reason for that is that you're using DB Lite. Expect soaring frame rates with DBP.

Since it's my birthday too.

I know I would give you half if I was given that type of money.

Invest it? Hmmm. Have you seen the interest rates? £500 should get all of £10 over the years. Nice.

Ummm.... up my comment to beer & fags.

You should have bought a Radeon 9800 Pro, they utterly whip the FX's arse. Well I think so at least

Nah, the difference between the Radeon and GeforceFX of the same price range isn't that great. I like the FX offered by the Geforce, and I think they're generally more compatible - plus Sparkle have never let me down yet.

My mate is an IT manager. He ordered 50 Radeon cards for some PCs he was putting togher, and he sent 50 Radeon cards back because the drivers they supplied didnt work with any of his systems. I know he could've downloaded updates, but it's not a good start!

I read somewhere as well that the 5800 has a lot of potential to be accelerated by future driver releases, but the initial drivers were released with compatibility in mind, rather than speed. Probably a good job too, otherwise my mate would've been sending 50 Geforces back too.

Isn't there a 256Mb 5900 now?

Oh, and a friend of mine reckons that the 9900Pro comes out around the launch of HL2. And it's supposed to ship with a complete version of HL2. Hopefully enhanced to pants would be nice.

Cheers

Radeon verse Gforce. It really depends what you want, and need for your computer. Personally, I'm a radeon fan, but I wouldn't mind a gforce card, if the price is right to pay.

Those 256MB 5900s are monsters, but they're also monsters on the wallet. They've got faster clock speeds, but the rendering pipelines and texture units per pipeline are the same as the 5800, where as the 5800 has 16 times that of the 5600. I think the 5900s have a new chip on them though - just something I read somewhere. Some new advanced shadow trickery.

Lol, here in America fags mean something quite different.

I'ld go ape nuts on E-Bay myself. Get a few Super Famicom games, try and find Photoshop 7 for under $100, maybe see if I could get "The World of the Dark Crystal" in hardback. Heh, pipe dream there, last time I saw that book on E-bay it when for $700.

Hey, if we have beer and fags, then we could all be happy and gay and stuff.

...I assure you it means the same here too

Heh, nothing like a bit of TGP to cheer up the day So, yeah, fags mean "something quite different" here too. No difference. Just we *also* call ciggies fags too. Pretty much since my Grandad's grandad I would imagine.
