Start incredably simple and work your way up to cloneing any old games you can remember playing. The clasic example that a lot of people make is pong.

It's perhaps not the best idea to start the game you want to make first but build up the techniques you will need in other projects than bring them all together after you have mastered them.

Don't worry too much about abanoning projects half-way through it's better to keep yourself intrested than to finish a project.

1mb isn't very much. Your game is likely to end up around 3mb.
There are lots of games that you can make that are easy.
Card games are easy to make.
2D fruit machines.
Adventure games.
Board games like monopoly.
Mines.

Just a few ideas.

You could also do remakes of two of my TI83+ games

Spacecop v1.1

SpaceCop v2.5
http://www.ticalc.org/archives/files/fileinfo/291/29131.html

Please note they are nothing like the SpaceCop game I am making now.

Or you could try this horrible puzzle game I made for the TI83+

The walk-through that comes with DBpro is a nice 3d game to learn with. Not super hard and you will really learn something.

Hint: Type it all in my hand, you will learn more. then cutting and pasting
