I found it pretty hard to make a good outdoor scene without using tons of rocks or trees to block the end of the terrain. It doesn't look good with just a drop off leading nowhere. Is there some way to lift the edges of the world so it looks like hills block it off?

My suggestion would be downloading Cosmic's outdoor pack. It has grass segments, some of them are hills.

If you place objects right you can use hill segments and give it an illusion that it's part of the terrain. But you can't raise or change the edges segments or entities in the editor, you have to edit the model or segment to "lift it's edges" with another program.
