Other question : Where can i find (or buy) good royality 2d sprites for commercial shoot em up

Thanks (sorry for my english)

The original DarkBASIC came with a 3ds to .x convert utility - I'll see if I can find that...

No, it does not manage to convert animation. It converts only the first frame.
I think, It is because the poser animation is not a standard animation but a morphing animation.
Nobody knows a good converter (or a plugin for poser) ?

3ds doesn't support animation natively thats the problem ... just the newer 3D Studio Versions of it *think since R3.5 or so* supports it but not the "gamedev used" 3ds format.
so most of the game 3ds -> x converter won't convert more than the first frame since there isn't meant to be more than this single frame.

A problem with Poser 4...
(Which I also use.)
Is that it doesn't export the correct form of the format *.3DS to be able to convert it to an animated *.X model.
So, you'd have to export each frame as an individual model.
However, even that doesn't guarantee success, because data, and the texture, is often lost in the conversion.
The only way to successfully do it, that I've heard of, is to export the *.3ds animation into MAX.
Re-export it, and then convert it.
Max can accept the Poser 4 animations, and correctly save it for successful conversion.
Unfortunately, I can't afford Max!
AND...
The models I've licensed don't allow inclusion in commercial products.
So...
I do 2D exclusively, now.

Poser 4 models are like 100,000 polys aren't they? No really workable unless you want a game running at 1 FPS!! I've imported poser models in to MAx and rebuilt my own character around them. To get the character animated you'll need to create a bones setup...etc
