Just got an idea for a rythm type game... think Stepmania, except that you have to use the entire keyboard AND the mouse too!!! Guaranteed to either increase your typing skills tenfold or put you in the hospital for broken finger muscles...

In the beginning there was nothing. There'll be nothing in the end...

A really really long game with no checkpoints or saving in that is incredibly easy for the first 12 hours and then there is a near imposssible boss.

...
Game over, start again from beginning of game anyone?

If you see a thread of mine in GDT, please don't expect it to go anywhere.

I would say a game that took you about an hour into a vastly interesting world and storyline, and then you get to a blank room with no doors, the game auto saves, and then every new game loads you back into that room.

Perhaps a door appears a short distance from you every so often, but the moment you get near it disappears.

Edit: after a bit the room would also start rapidly flashing black and white, playing the Canadian nation anthem as loud as it could. Perhaps the game could hack your computer so that that became the screensaver and auto booted with the system.

Here are a couple of ideas:

- FPS that autosaves at low ammo and/or health. Have fun dying!
- A game suddenly has a mission that requires the player to not touch the keyboard or mouse for a number of hours, without notifying them that the mission started. Losing the mission means losing the game. Have fun breaking the computer!
- Any game where a loss results in force corruption of the game files. Have fun reinstalling!
- An RPG where random battles are designed to spawn enemies that are either resistant to every type of damage your party can deliver or is randomly immune to a single or multiple party members. Have fun attacking that tank with your theif!

More later.

Edit:
Quote: "Just got an idea for a rythm type game... think Stepmania, except that you have to use the entire keyboard AND the mouse too!!!"

Actually this doesn't seem that far fetched. The player would have to click on different text fields, type a given word (In time to the music of course), hit enter to the beat, and move on to the next field.

How about an MMO that with such loaded content, extended community and massive 'fun' factor that it consumes your entire life and changes you into a totally different person...(wait, I think there is a game like that??)

A game which shows the history of boats. And you can't leave, and everytime its finished the person telling you the history will "Say and in case you missed that." And if you wait till its been repeated 10 times it will load up a variant of pong and bare in mind that the length of the actual thing is a whole day. So 10 days just to play pong, and inbetween each time it says "Get ready for something great!" and "Nearly.." Just to keep people going. Also CTRL-ALT-DELETE will not help.

You're in a cave, and you're trying to get to the exit. Seems simple enough, but there are 50 invisible enemies blocking your way who can kill you with one hit and are immortal. Even if you get past the first 49 enemies, the last one is a giant monster blocking the exit that is constantly attacking, so if you get too close to it you'll instantly die. There's only a 2 second window for you to jump through it's legs and to the exit while it's scratching it's nose.

The entrance to the cave is on the edge of the cliff, so you have to move your character down a very very very very very narrow staircase to the bottom of the cliff. One wrong button and you'll go falling off the staircase to your death, or you'll hit the side of the cliff and jiggle loose a boulder above you that will fall down on and instantly kill you.

Once you get down to the bottom of the cliff, there's a cutscene where your character lies down to take a nap after the whole ordeal. As he's napping, goblins at the top of a cliff knock a boulder down onto him and kill him. The end.

That's the evilest idea to come to my mind. The scary thing is that I almost actually made it with Game Maker. I guess there is a sadistic side to my mind after all!

Well, I guess when you say 'evil' you dont mean the player does evil things, but evil things happen to the player.... Which is not what I thought you meant. If it was that the player has to do evil things, then look at this

most evil game idea ever... hmm...
an fps game where you ar a concentration camp worker and for the first few levels, learn to shoot by shooting jews, and learn squadron commands by commanding jews in to gas chambers, and furnaces, learning to carry and throw stuff by carrying and dropping the zyklon B into the gas chambers.

then the americans attack and you use these skills to shoot them, command your squad, and stack boxes for cover

then in the end you get hanged.

How about a game where if you select EASY mode, all the enemies are easy to kill (just one shot!), but then the game spawns a ton of enemies who all shoot back! And then when a player selects HARD mode, there are fewer enemies, but they're more intelligent and have godly hitpoints and defenses to boot!

or maybe that's not evil enough...

In the beginning there was nothing. There'll be nothing in the end...

How about the most hyped game ever, so much so that 20 million people try to get it the day it is released. Then, when the game is loaded it turns out to be a copy of ET, the game.

Bugsy: ? Speilberg didn't have anything to do with ET. Have you played his actual games, Boom Blox? Some of the best party games I've ever played.

I'd say a Top Gun remake, but you just watch random clips of jets flying by, then when you actually get to play your just landing on an the aircraft carrier.

..wait!? Was that even in the movie? I don't remember them landing on an aircraft carrier...

a game where you were supposed to find a way to glitch in to the nextt part of the level, like you had to push the screenshot button while walking at a wall to go through it and then walk across the skybox into the next door... thats invisible

I think there's some game for the genesis or something where the only way to get past a level is to hit the reset button. However, the only way you would know this was if you looked it up. Who would seriously try that in a game??

I suppose an "evil" idea would be requiring the player to mash a button for a prolonged period of time at a constant rate to clear a level that is really more-or-less a couple of minutes of cutscene. As a final insult, should the player fail, they have to do it all again, except this time their fingers are already screwed before they start.

God I hope no developer ever stoops so low as to really do that.

Gets ignored a lot.

I think there's a game for the Gamecube that did that... Insanity's Requiem or something... The higher your "insanity meter" got, the worse the effects, such as turning off your TV, reformatting your memory card, etc... I think there was one time where I reset the Gamecube because I thought it turned itself off... >_<

A game where you are invincible and have every weapon imaginable at your fingertips to kill people. Also, some sort of dismembering system with copius amounts of blood and gore and vomiting. Oh, and your targets are all innocent civillians.

A game that installs a virus on your system and you have 1 hour to beat it or it wipes the hard drive. Shutting down, exiting out of the game will cause the virus to execute. If you beat it you get some sort of real world prize to encourage people to take the chance.

Who's played the cycling endurance on track & field? that was brutal!
I would make a game where a platform was just too far away for the player to make the jump. I hate games that do that to trick you because you later find that's not the right way to get to the end of the level!! Evil!

How about this then? An RPG where you wake up and go through your day. You dance your way through fields of flowers, picking some and giving them to people with a smile on your face. See a conflict? You solve it peacefully and both parties thank you with smiles and hugs. You won't find guns, missiles, or weapons here. Only flowers made of cookies, teacup plants you can actually drink, etc... And you even get to sing about how great the world is, and everyone then joins in and you all create a harmonic sound that.......

....
..

Okay. I'm tired of typing this now. Back to Gears of War! >

I don't want to comment on it because it'll probably end with a thread lock - but, I mean, urrghh... Just worrying...

On a lighter note, I kind of like the idea of this game:

I don't see what's evil about a game that's unplayably difficult. No-one would play it. Surely an "evil" game is one that seductively draws in the player until they become addicted, but then becomes thoroughly unenjoyable but without losing the elements that make it addictive. As in this famous rant - http://games.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=02/12/27/1748252&mode=flat&tid=127 . Whether that's a fair assessment of that particular game I don't know, but it seems to me that a game that deliberately behaved like that would be far more "evil" than one that was just pointlessly bad or impossible to play.

Fine my last idea for a truly evil game. You have to play through an insanely hard, stressful, and boring RPG. What's going to draw in the player? If you win you get to see a picture of Megan Fox... NAKED! How is this evil? It's a picture of a fat man who's name just happens to be Megan Fox.
