This is just the beginning of my first character for FPSC.. he's a main character commando guy.. I'm using the highresolution model for the animation cutscenes and the medium poly mesh for the in game.

Im creating a whole video series on the creation of the characters too!

check out my videos on Utube

Um, looks really good, but unless you have ingame screenshots, this belongs in 3D chat.

Man.. I can't seem to win. If I post in another persons thread.. I'm a spammer.. if I post in my own thread.. I'm doing it wrong..

Some Kid - I use Zbrush and MAX. I'll be posting links to my youtube site showing the modeling process pretty soon here.

Tell me, Apple Slicer, what program do I need to show the model in game? I already managed to import one of my models into FPSC.. but I cant figure out how to apply normal maps.. Grrr.. driving me insane.. and I can't find these sacred Bond1 threads that explain how..

Nice progress. It's looking good.

What Apple Slicer is talking about is that you need a FPSC screen shot of the model in the engine. Other wise it would have been best to post this in 3D Chat.

Right now I'm scratching my head trying to figure out how to apply bump maps.. any ideas? I use the FPSC TOOLBOX and it only has one slot for textures..

how does one usually go about applying normal maps to a character? I can't find the threads by Bond1 that explain it and I am losing my mind trying to discover the secret! lol

Simply after you export the ready model with FPSC TOOLBOX copy your normalmap named ******_N (replace **** with the normal texture name) in the folder of the entity. You must have _N,_D,_D2 and _S textures in .dds format in your entity folder.Once you have that, place your entity in the editor, right click on it and set a shader on it like fastbone.fx or bump.fx then go to Files-Preferences and turn on shaders, then test and enjoy the glory.

DJmaster, you are a great help!!

now on to a new ridiculous challenge, lol..

I imported a character once before.. and it worked fine... but now I get this when I try it again?

Does it have anything to do with the UV's or the geometry or rigging?
I reset the XFORM in MAX and that did not help.. and the UV's are laid out in the correct uv space.. I don't understand!

I am so close too! I finally made a .dds of my normal map and was about to test it.. then this happens..

Any suggestions? I swear the model will look great once i get it in the game

now in Preferences I only see a light mapping option with low medium or full.. is this what you guys mean by shader? Is that an option in an older version, perhaps? I am running the 1.15 update..

its very much worth it. I've been working with MAX for eight years and every version gets better and better. Though, I'm a big MAX 8 fan, as that was the version I splurged on, plugin wise, and I can't do it for every version, lol.

@Robo- I like the terminator style skeleton underneath the skin.

Only crit fingers look kindof stuby, but keep up the impressive work man.

Thanks Gargoyle! Yeah, that is the most common crit, . I'll do better the second time around. I was sort of going off of the structure of the in game models that came with FPSC, but I'll model it as I would model any character next time

he's somewhat way too shiny with that shader...

How did you make the normalmapping work in 3ds in the realtime preview window? Did you apply a custom shader? Where?

The wrists are bending at too much of an angle. That's the only crit I have.

Well, I made him specifically for you guys, so instead of looking a gift horse in the mouth, download him from my other thread and fix up the maps as you like I use 3ds MAX 2010, which is why the maps work in the viewport.

Quote: "it is way to shiny "

Again, fix up the map as you like

Quote: "The wrists are bending at too much of an angle. That's the only crit I have. "

lol.. it's already rigged in the animation loop. that is how all FPSC models look when you apply the animation file and the figure file.

Sorry if i sound grumpy, but these are things that are based on preference.. at least for me. If you don't like them, then by all means change them

What was I thinking when I chose the name.. ROBOCRAP!! I usually go by SCREENWRITER805... and still I chose.. Robotic feces...

YOU gave this model away for free in another thread! Wow, extremely nice contribution. I actually really like his overall design, to bad he isn't in a DarkBasic Professional game and if it were back in March because I would have asked for him to be in TGC Heroes (TGC Heroes game based on popular DarkBasic games and is set to be finished hopefully the begginning of July). Maybe if we make an update we'll add this cool looking guy to the game in the future.

Cheers,
Beastegargoyle
