Updating your FPS Creator is free of charge, so yes. You get unlimited updates for free.

By character demo, do you mean a tutorial on how to make character models, or are you downloading an actual model?

Yes. You can also download the stand-alone game creator store app. and it hads loads of free .x media which you can test/use.
