It obviously took a while to ship the game box to middle europe but now that I have it I don't see any sense in it.

My downloaded game is patched, modded and running and I ask myself "why do they send out the boxed game anyway?".

Is this a legal thing that TCG has to give the customers something physicall? Otherwise it'd be just a waste of materials

FPSC is shipping a game box - but you get a download version on buying and I'd bet that everybody (like me) is to eager to wait for the box and is allready in the middle of a project when it arrives.

I am just curious why FPSC is sending a game box at all

You don't have to buy the boxed version at all. You can download FPSC free and then buy the build game upgrade. This way you don't get sent the boxed version.

I think the boxed version has more stock media though. I've never downloaded or used FPSC free so I can't be 100% certain that this is correct.

They send it because I wanted it. But really, some of us old timers still prefer to have the CD and the little manual. There was no internet when we started computing. No CD-ROM's either, but we still want it.

I wish I would get as much response when asking a build question.

Now without jokes:
Asking a question means not one is having a point. I am neither in favour nor against recieving a download link and a box.

My question is still not answered though - "why'd you bother" doesn't count.

But I'll provide some possible answers:
1. FPSC has to send you something "real" for legal/tax reasons.
2. You could have checked the "dont send me the game box but the cheaper download version" box.
3. The boxed game includes the latest patch and comes with some extra goodies (like a free mount when you are buying a FREE MMO game boxed set).

But maybe the answer is completely different

PS: So I am not wasting even more forum space: Anybody know what became of Anja Viotile? I stumbled over some of her stuff in the forums but she hasnt been here since 2008 and her website is gone.

It is not a legal thing that they have to send you something material. But people (also myself) want it, and there are also boxed versions in store, and people who do not have a an Internetconnection.

Ist doch selbstverständlich,oder?

The boxed version comes with more stock media. And some other stuff but I've forgotten what.

Edit: I bought the boxed version, and the only thing I've ever downloaded was the patch - I think the program IS actually on the CD.

Also, this ain't no game Sonny Jim.

The game is distributed in a very nice box. Its worth having.

As for the engine. Its the most important piece of software you will ever own.

LOL!
FPSC is more than worthy of a little piece of plastic and a paper booklet.
I would hardly call that use of raw materials a waste.
The CD makes for a good backup too.

Quote: "So what's your point?"

The point is that backup CDs & DVDs should not only be made of plastic but also made out of precious materials as well.
That way, people would have the option to purchase it as an investment, since the raw material would gain in value regardless of the value of the data.

Good point Storyteller!

So, lets invent silver and gold flash drives, eh?

Dang they beat us to it!
This is an 18k solid gold Flash Drive retailing for $600.
FPSC is worth more than that to me, but keeping my backup on plastic is fine.

I still don't understand your question. If you choose to buy the boxed version from the website then yes TGC does legally have to send you the boxed copy even if you take advantage of the digital download while you wait option.

If someone doesn't want a boxed copy then the best way for them to purchase FPSC is to download the FPSC Free and buy the build game upgrade.

Put it in your safe. One day the original box and CD will be worth tens of dollars.
