I just got DBP this morning, and i've transfered my DBC code to it and it works fine. Which is good. So i was mucking around with the tutorials and trying to put my own test map from Valve's hammer editor into it. So i made a big flat box using a texture from 'Gunman Chronicles' to use as a tester map. I was going to use it to test all the functions, lighting, collisions, etc. But i can't load it into DBP! I saved it as a .map because i know that it's able to use .map files, because it says so on the box. I can't find a load *.map command though! All i can find are BSP maps and PK3 maps or something like that. So i tried the BSP compiler, but it can't seem to find the .map files! It says at the bottom 3D objects, so what does that mean? I'm tearing my hair out. If anyone can help me, then i'd be a happy man. Bye Bye -DivW

I think you need to convert the MAP file to BSP first, then load it to DBP, there is a converter in one of the DBP subdirectories. I read this somewhere on another post on these boards.

Maybe someone else has some further info?

good luck

I found a converter but it only works on .x files, which isn't any use. I looked through the forums for that other thingy, but i cant find the post. I'm really stuck until i figure this out. I'm making a FPS that, when i've finished it, will be able to go 3rd person as well like Morrowind Does. Hopefully. Well anyway, i guess i'd use 2 cameras to do that, and a simple algorithm to switch between them. Yay for Dark Basic Pro! It would be nearly impossible to do that on DBC. Well...it would be annoyingly time consuming without the multiple camera support. Anywho, anyone with information about BSP compiling please post a message or i'll cry.

Well ive just managed to figure out how to do the BSP compiling thing myself, no thanxs to anyone who thinks along the lines of "Damn Newbies" or "I cant be bothered typing a post". I thought i'd come back and update this so that in future other people can have half a clue as to what's going on. To compile Hammer .map files into .BSP files you need Zoner's Half Life tools Custom Build. You can use these through Hammer somehow but i never figured out how to, so i got a frontend program. Here's the links for both of these, available from the Hammer website with a little searching.
