Ok, is it just me or is it the tools I use that prohibit me from making and using normal maps? Attached is a zip with a simple brick model and texture I made, I also made a test normal map.

the programs I have are Anim8or, Bryce6, LithUnwrap, and an x model viewer. I also made a quick little DBPro program to load and show a model..

here is the texture map and normal.

Nothing I seem to do or use seems to allow me to display the brick with the normal map applied. Do I need to set the normal map as a bump map texture in animator and resave? is it my tools that are not up to snuff? does the normal map need to be 'applied' like the UV map? am I barking up the wrong tree? should I just give up and keep at regular UV maps and abandon the normal map thing?

Help! I'm going crazy! well, ok, I'm already there but shhh not everyone knows yet!

Cheers! and thanks for any help/insight you can throw in my direction.

Hey David,

You will need to apply your normal map using a shader. If you go here:
http://evolveduk.googlepages.com/Shaders_BumpMapping.html

Evolved has a couple of DBPro examples of both Normal and Parralax Mapping, which is what you need to get your normal maps working!

Normal mapping only uses the normal map you have above, but parallax mapping will use a normal map and height map to give more depth to the "Bumps".
