Just what the title says... and even then sometimes it won't find the net game and fail.

I load my basic server and usually wait 1-2min then run the client. For some reason it takes both server and client almost 3min to establish a connection and then create/join net game. Most the time I have to run the client 4-5 times before it will pick up the net game and connect.

Once the client connects to the server tho sending messages is lightning fast and I don't have any problems.

So my question is why is it taking so long for set net connection and join net game/create net game to work? Even then why does it take me running the client 4-5 times before it will pick up a net game?

PS. it's not my program as i've used a blank document and just done set net connection:create net game:print "done":do:loop
and it will be almost 3 minutes until i see the message.

hope all that mad sense ; ;

If you don't connect directly to a set IP I think the program scans and tests until it finds a connection. Though, I'm not sure.

Enjoy your day.

Being connected to multiple (or very large) networks MIGHT be a factor, but I don't know for sure. I could never get those commands to work well.

I should have been more specific, I am doing this at home and am using a set IP and have no firewall software on the server hosting pc.

I'll keep playing around with it I suppose lol

My laptop is hosting the server so it is set net connection 3,'192.168.1.101"

My Tower is running the client so for now it uses the same as above.

Sometimes the client will pick up the net game and some times it won't. It's so random I can't narrow it down.

I've played around with this more and it seems every time I run either the client or the server... it gradually takes longer for it to connect. almost like a memory leak or something.

So I've gone as far as to write 2 seperate .dbas and test it with that.... one just creates a net game and the other just connects to it... and same thing, it's gradually taking a longer and longer amount of time to connect each one.

What was the point of ever having multiplayer if 1) you can't connect on a consistent basis and 2) it's this buggy and 3) you can't even specify a port number >.>

I'd really lean to learning and using another language if i didn't like darkbasic much as I do. /sigh

@Nomad

Try using multisync. It's a DLL for multiplayer net connections. It used to be called Tempest and I remember testing that out and it worked quite well.

Multisync

Enjoy your day.

Thanks a lot, it's working like a charm now ^^
