I think it was last year or even two years ago that we were making monthly music packs for people to download. Would anybody be interested in doing that again this year? I thought it was alot of fun and would love to see what we all come up with for whatever themes we decide for the month. Then releasing the whole sound pack for download. I think this would be fun to do again....

What do you guys think?

Yes, it died just about when I tried to join... just my luck

Anyways, I gave it a go here, but unfortunately we didn't get all that far...

Still, I'd probably be interrested; just hoping I've got the time when it starts. It's always interresting to try out different genres.
So, you have my vote.

I would suppose that somebody should post up a request thread in GC then... as we all know, we won't get any in here.
However, it might just get spammed up with hundreds of less serious requests... otherwise it's a good idea, NGX.

I believe that the old way about it was simply to make up a theme and some song list, where each one selected a song and had a go at that particular theme / setting.

I'm all go - always nice to try out new genres

Maybe some of the tracks could be a team composition or collaberation like maybe Rudolpho and Grandma or some other people work on one specific track for this pack. Kind of like what the guys at OCRemix have going on with their album arrangments where some of the tracks are collaberations and others are just solo compositions. I think this would be quite cool if we could achieve it

My idea on how a collaberation would be possibly is very simple... basically just a MIDI file with all the musical information on it shared between the two collaberators. I think this would be the easiest way as every MIDI sequencer obviously has an export MIDI feature.

Your thoughts on the idea of team compositions?

@NGXMusical- I think MP3 would be the most plausible audio output file because there is a low file size. And for bitrates, I think that highest would be best, but it is personal preference really haha (I myself render my audio at the highest bitrate, however )

This doesnt need to be a competition or anything at all....it would be just fun to have a bunch of people writing a song each for a certain theme. And release it all as a downloadable pack.

Team compositions.... id be out Im not very skilled at writting music at all. That and we would all need the same app to co-write it.

if we can all just pick a theme and start working on it with a dead line in mind ....then host it all for people to check out.

eg. I remember a year or 2 ago we did a car racing theme, menu music theme,...and something else i think?

anyways it would be cool to do that again.

Well thats why we would export the composition as a MIDI file because all MIDI sequencers import MIDI files, so the entire composition would be right there

That's what I was hoping for, too. But you know, we could that while the others do their thing. I'm sure noone would complain.

So then... when and how is this to be undertaken?
I'd suppose we would need someone to act as a coordinator, or what do you think?

Ehh I appreciate the thought, but I dunno if I'm cut out for the job I also would like to compose some type of action/fighting theme as I've never attempted anything of that nature so it would be a pretty cool experience

That's fine with me if you organize it.

I vote for fighting game themes (Maybe one person makes a menu theme, another makes a specific level theme, etc.) or classic RPG themes (sort of like Final Fantasy-type themes or maybe even Chrono Trigger-type themes)

June 30th, "fighting" theme (however one likes to interpret it), Mp3 format, 192kbps?

Never done such a song before, but it'll be fun.

Shouldn't 320Kb/s be better?
It can always be downsampled afterwards, but its good to have a proper quality master track. (PCM Wave would probably be too large though).

I am currently not feeling to well though; hopefully it is nothing worse than urinary infection, so I hope I get well soon enough and can jump in. I too have never tried any fighting game music (blatantly, of the (few) fighting games I've played, I always thought they didn't have much quality in their music - let's see if we can change that ).

Of course 320 is better technically, I'm just not sure of the practicality of it. I can't hear much of a difference, but it's fine by me whatever format we go for.

Certain high, clear tones can loose their clarity in 192Kb I believe. Maybe that's just due to inproper downsampling however.

Erm... I said July 31st (or was it July 30th? How many days are in July? lol) but you posted June 30th.. 15 days just seems too little and we should probably have at least a month, anyone else agree?

I see, well... maybe the listeners will be too busy beating the crap out of someone to notice.

As for the date, I meant july, but anything is fine by me. Under stress, I tend to make a song in about 2 days.

I'm gonna take a slightly different approach and make something that sort of resembles a clash of themes from two games:

-X-Men: Mutant Apocalypse for the SNES
SAMPLE: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UWDosWsGXXs
-Mega-Man 3 for the NES
SAMPLE: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UVsVw7Y7SSA (I really like this theme because of the jazzyness)

Should be interesting to see what I can come up with

EDIT: I might wanna even include MM4 in this.. I really like that soundtrack.

And now I present, a very early W.I.P I tried to keep the spirit of old-school fighting games by using mostly synthesizers.

EDIT: No EQ, Reverb, or anything has been added yet.

I like the 3rd level music in streets of rage for sega genesis and thats the one im gunna try to overhaul.

SMD_3D, I'm assuming that wasn't mean to be a quote. There's no harm in drawing inspiration from an "identical" source. I'm sure our different styles will make our works sound very different.

I don't know if I'll make a track but, if anybody wants some mixing or some good sampled instruments put in their tracks, I'm here to help. The sample libraries I have are Vienna's Special Edition, EWQLSO Gold Complete, EWQL Ra Ethnic Instruments, EWQL Storm Drum 2, EWQL Ministry of Rock, EWQL Symphonic Choirs, Kontakt 3, Gigastudio 3, Dimension Pro. My DAW is Sonar Producer 8, and for mixing and mastering I have Izotope's Ozone 3.

The composer will get credit for composing and me for mixing.

Try things that you normally wouldn't... you might find the answer.

@da power pwnerer: nice oldish sound on that one

@NGXmusical: sounds good, but a tad to much like the original mayhap?
Nice percusions though.

Well, here's my demo. I went for some sort of "amiga metal" but with more well sampled sounds, so to say. I don't know if it really is all that actiony though...

ya final fantasy 1 for snes had amazing tunes! Some of my favorite....

Anyways I decided to use Qmusic V4 instead of magix cause i thought it would be cool to make a good tune with that.

here is what i came up with this week (its repetitive but sounds ok i think?)

I like the "first" part (in quation marks because it is repeated later as well), but I can't help but get the feeling that the beat is somewhat off?

And a suggestion for the bass line (strings) in that first part; maybe you should make it a bit more staccato or just add in a 1/16:th note going down to the quint after hitting the prime note. Should give it a nice feeling, I think.

Sounds really fitting for some action scene though
