You can do it with DBP, just do a search for shaders.

No offense, but why are you here? If your here just for the modeling then why not post in 3d total or some other 3d forums? You'd get a lot more responses and critiques.

I own DBP, but I too like the community, even though there's a lot of nuckle heads lol. Sure I could get better feedback/learn more from others elsewhere, but I like teaching as well and I enjoy sharing my wisdom for those who ask for it.

Makes sense, the community is usually the deciding factor..I wasn't trying to say Quick shouldn't be here. I've been a part of the DB community since the Grey forums...I'm old...

You've never used photoshop have you?

Photoshop is 100+ More than that, it allows brushes, filters, adjustment layers, free-transforming etc... There's over 45,000 features in PS that Paint doesnt have...

gash, now uve gone way off topic =P yes i use XSI AND Ms3d!, that isnt ur problem is it? =P now i got irritated, read the topic, it says i need help to apply bump maps aso, not to be critizized about what programs i use!

edit: i bought MS3D when i was new to modelling, the first program ive ever made, but since XSI is like.. .WAY better modelling software i rather use it for modelling and MS3D when it comes to applying textures and perhaps animating if i ever get into it =P

Matuka, your secret is out, you are a Vulcan,.. they have allot of difficulty with sarcasm. LoL, j/k unless you actually are, just in case.. <me gives Vulcan salute> "Live long and prosper".

And anyone who says they are here because it's a good community wins any argument. you also win if you just come here because you like me. (Haha, there I let my vanity out for a walk, be thankful that I don't let it out more often.)

Cheers!

P.S. I'm just learning about bump maps and normals myself, I sure wish Bryce could render the normal maps. <sigh>

I'd just download the DBP demo, then you could play around with all kinds of shaders. You could also make your own 'renderer' with DBP.

I hope you're not suggesting that he makes his own rendering API with DBP. Ray casting itself is slow enough, let alone applying textures, shaders, etc.

One word: trueSpace. It's both easy to use and powerful (and free!). Get it while you can, because Microsoft pulled the plug.

Why not? DBPro can load HLSL shaders, so you can make it look as good as you want it to. And if you're just rendering a still image what the hell does it matter how long it takes?

I think I misunderstood what Josh meant; I thought he was talking about creating an actual rendering API, like OpenGL, with DBP, simply by drawing points/lines/shapes to the screen. But apparently he was talking about creating a 3D renderer like mental ray, yayfray, etc.
