I suppose its a nice start, but to get anywhere at all with Blender's game engine you're going to have to learn Python as well as the Blender Game API.

Tell me about it! The BLEND file format is essentially a memory dump of the Blender scene, probably due to the very complex nature of Blender sessions. One BLEND file can contain dozens of scenes, and 20 layers in each scene, as well as dozens of materials, models, textures, game logic datablocks, rigid bodies, softbodies, fluids, etc. And I suppose that its much faster to simply copy a large chunk of data into memory then other alternatives.
