Basically, I'm trying to find out how much people would pay for the texture pack i've made?

heres the link to it in the 3DWS forumy bit, which has screen shots of the textures in action!

http://forum.thegamecreators.com/?m=forum_view&t=151753&b=13&p=0

here's abit of info on it...

Quote: "
- 17 Detail Images
- 17 Normal Maps
- 17 Displacement Maps
- 5 Default UV Maps

(56 Images in total)

I was thinking £5 (Which is $8 or 6 EUROs) so thats less than 8 pence an image!
So what I'm asking is would people pay that?
I'd love to release it for free but, If i did i'd have to get a job whilst im not a university, and thus couldnt program/create textures anymore
"

So let me know

£7.99 on the basis that

-> It seems to be a nice sweet-spot for an impulse buy, without feeling too cheap or too expensive

-> Irrespective of the quantity of work being purchased, this is probably a good amount considering it's very unlikely the buyer will use all the content (textures etc.) you're offering

However, I can't actually see any of them (because your site seems to be broken and is requested a username + password) so if they're of exceptional quality, maybe more. Or the inverse

The amount of money that it would cost me to go to Sears and take 17 photos...which is about a dollar or two for gas.

Seriously, that's all these really look like, is unedited photos. Sorry if there's more to them that I can't see.

I don't really know, but i'm going to hazard a guess.
I'm sure taking photographs of an existing manufacturers design and then selling those off might be a little frowned upon. More people would buy them if they were hand made (so to speak). Plus at least then you are actually earning your money rather than pasting a photograph onto a simple model.

I wouldn't sell those textures. You should add more detail to the models, then sell those instead.

Thing is, if I was making a microwave, I'd photograph my own microwave and ensure I got all the textures I need. I would also put in a lot of convenience detail. For instance I'd have a transparent door, so you can see the food inside, I'd have the microwave internals with the light and some grease.

When taking photographs for modelling, remember that if your not gonna edit them, then they are cheap as hell, you should have a photograph from every single angle, so that anyone who buys it can do the same internal modelling and transparency stuff. I just wouldn't pay for something that I could do a better job of myself. Which is why I suggest making it a model pack, with cookers and washing machines - kitchen pack!

Boring old household furniture would probably make for a succesful media pack.

So what people are saying is they wouldn't pay for it
fair enough, thats why I made this topic, to find out

Thankyou for everyones feed back, It's very useful

+ I'm not actually an artist, I just needed some textures for a project I'm working on, and thought I'd sell then end product, Guess I'll give it away for free and get a job at tesco or something

Damn I hate quoting myself, but people would buy a pack of furniture, you already have the models, why not try selling it as a furniture pack through the TGC store?

The way I see it, you have a great start on a pack that I think people want - you could even make a grisly version with a blood explosion in the microwave, blood inside the washing machine, etc etc. This is just the kind of thing FPSC users are lacking, modern settings for their games, and kitchens are always popular choices.

Can you sell textures via the game creators store?

or would it have to be models aswel?

Maybe these look better when the normal/displacement maps are included. Can you YouTube a walkaround to show off the maps?

Oh, and ditch the Turkey in the oven, it looks like it's stuck onto the door; it would look more realistic without it, or as VanB says - transparent.

I personally would pay about $3.00,because they look like you took a picture of the object on all four sides and edited them into a texture. good job anyway

I don't see the harm in bumping an old thread if there's still interest in it.
btw where I am he posted on the 14th august! just to make you a little more angry

I like the textures, with bump-mapping they could be sweet.
The only one I didn't like was the middle stove, and I would avoid things like putting a roast chicken in an oven. Otherwise there will be a suspicious amount of people having roast chicken for dinner in peoples' games!

Hehe, it's like my pet peve to see an ancient thread back on the front page. I mean, this thread's so old, the OP probably isn't too worried about the price of his kitchen appliances. All I'm saying is, this 2 month old topic didn't deserve a BASSIVE MUMP with only 10 posts and a subject that grows unimportant after a couple weeks. And if I remember correctly, the AUP might've said something about huge bumps and to just leave the topic alone. So, Travis, this is nothing personal towards you, but if you're reading this, I'm asking you kindly to please stop with the huge bumps.

...

And on-topic, they are some nice models. Drop the price down to $3.00.

[edit] Checked the AUP and it says nothing about big bumps. Although I have some memory of seeing something about massive bumps. Perhaps a mod said it, I don't know.

It was probably me, but I don't have a problem with bumps that make sense. If there's an interesting discussion then it makes sense, as long as it's not bumped with BUMP text

Now that I think harder about it, I think it was you, Jeku. I just hope he doesn't do this again for the sake of my own sanity. I realise he's not doing this just to bump, but I die a little inside seeing this.

Oops I accidentally bumped the 3DWS message.
