UV Mapping models automatically might be the worst way of UV Mapping, as the software never knows which pieces are most important and just generally tend to split everything up into a lot of strange pieces. Practice doing it for hand, it'll be worth it.

Josh mooney's got a point, but I found a neat thing in Blender...

It has a Smart Unwrap feature, which automatically lays out your object. (May not be suitable for complex objects, without using Seams...) basically...

1. split the windows (middle mouse button click when cursor is between two areas of the window and click "split")

2. change the view in one window to UV... (leftmost button in top bar below the model window)

3. Hit "U" when the mouse is in the modeler's window and choose the bottom option.

4. Watch the auto-layout in the other screen! and voila.

5. Scripts -> Export UV layout (I think it's called something else... easy to find tho) to really finish up.

That's probably the only thing, or style of thing, you'll have that "does the work for you". And I just learned how to use it, so I can't say if it'll work with models with more than 11 polys. Worked good for mine tho... lol

If you read my tutorial you can see UV mapping can be done in a few clicks...so I don't see how you think it's hard.

What's hard is the actual figuring out the best way to cut your models so they unfold with less stretching. Wings is very, very easy to use. It's the actual work your disinclined to actually attempt. Don't confuse the two.

Good luck with whatever you do...though I just want to say if you don't at least try and learn, your not going to get very far in skill.
