In order to keep myself busy and not be distracted by outside influences I thought I'd start a new thread for model requests. I started one of these a while back and it was fairly successful.

So basically, if you have a simple model request, post here and I'll come up with something for you.

This is not part of my 100/100 project. So feel free to request whatever your project desires.

I'll be updating the first post as I finish requests.

Current Requests:
- BMacZero - Field's Unit Texture
- djmaster - USP Pistol

So I'm guessing you took my idea of locking your family in the basement and quitting your job to make extra time for modeling

How's the Fields character texture going? Seemed like a good time to ask about that

djmaster: Sure! Once I get BMacZero's texture finished I build yah a USP.

Got the model unwrapped and the color layered out. Started to add detail to the pants. Not much too look at now:

Edit: About that USP... are there any front-view reference images? I got the outline... can make-up my own I guess.. bah
re-edit: I found a trick... create a midpoint and extend it, then switch back to reference image and pull the verts out to where the image's shaded (angled) area ends... heh. And I still have to do the essay...

I have read your other recent posts and became quite interested in normal mapping... my only problem is I have no idea what I'm doing.

I "did" go through Blender's wiki and apply a normal map onto a UV then render, a bunch of times... it seemed to be "on" but I couldn't tell if it was bump(normal) mapped or not.

So I started up Truespace 7, applied a bump map to a model... and went to render. My only problem is I switched all menus to 1D and still couldn't find the Render button, then managed to completely lose the camera before learning how to move it and not just rotate it.

I'm capable of modelling and UV-ing now but I was very impressed with your normals on the other models. (and I did learn xnormal to a basic degree-> can generate the maps anyway). So my request is: Any short instructions on how to apply a normal map?

I seem to have the rest down, and truespace is fine even though Blender's my main modelling tool.

I will give this one more go either way, so you can hold off any explaining until I read a truespace tutorial... I just have an essay to write and I'll be back to this in a day.

I can even pay ya back and take over requests you can't handle due to time constraints. Like that USP, I have no idea what it is... but can probably make it. (will find a reference pic and write the essay)

Feiting Shadow, shouldn't you ask Josh first before you start doing the requests?

I'm working on a lot of models right now. Really am keeping myself busy. But don't expect much updates for a few days I guess, I'm on post moderation for some reason I'm totally unaware of...

I'll try to get stuff up as I can. Hopefully this moderation lifts...I wouldn't even know who to contact about it...*sigh*, oh well.

You could probably e-mail any mod and they can find out who slapped you and why. Or you could just wait it out, they seem to be about 3 days usually.

I should ask Josh before taking over anything "instead" of him...

Also I should show I'm not a lazy-a__ by doing stuff "along with" him if I choose to model such an object.

Also, I didn't ask because I wanted something done for me... asked because I want to do requests too so I have a goal to accomplish and don't just sit in front of blender staring at the starting screen.

I figured it'd be OK because Josh has a contest model, a project involving models, and requests here for... 2000 polys per gun!? Along with work and programming...

I have a job, school, my own projects, and the need to learn 3D. So I figured I can start my own request thread, and get any random thing, and be overwhelmed... or I can take any designated load off of Josh's shoulders per his request.

In other words, I will instantly switch to do anything he asks me to model if he's too busy to get to it, but has enough to do already. If nothing, I'll stop completely and start my own thread.

This just seemed more practical. I had to consider every factor, otherwise I would not have "butted in". But I saw his other threads and know how loaded work-wise he is, so I assumed I would be relatively welcomed more than shunned.

I'll still do whatever you request, Omen's taking a break for a little bit, so I'm able.

Edit: It's from the "You must be superman!" which would normally not be flamebait, but over there... everyone said something that built up to obvious mild flaming.

No one is stopping you from building any models. Go for it. I really don't mind. I'm a very laid back person. If your doing the pistol let me know and I'll update the first post and add a 'feiting' request section and add that model.

cheers

Alright BMacZero...I've been trying but I can't seem to get a good UV with your model. The only reason is because there is no center seam, so I can't really do a mirrored texture. Some of the model gets warped funny. I tried adding a seam but for some reason neither TS or Wings will let me, says "invalid edge"? Not sure why it's doing that.

So basically I'm considering just redoing the model for you. Your model is good so don't think I'm putting down your modeling skills, you did a great job, especially from what it evolved from when you first started it. I just think I can get a better model and UV for yah if I redo the model.

I'll wait for your say though. Just let me know.

@Josh - Thanks for the offer! I think I'll stick with my mesh though. It's modeled in such a way that it seems to work well with the mesh-deform-based animation system I'm working on for it. Plus, I'm looking forward to seeing more good RTS models over on the "100 models" thread .

I've sent a new mesh with the center seam and a few minor tweaks.

I have a ways to go, and need an img shack or something account to be able to post more... yes I already deleted unseen faces, and this is very tedious...

I will have to post twice to upload the model so far... just letting you see what's happened. I plan on finishing this tomorrow if I'm awake enough to do it. (minus texture... but I will do that later)

EDIT: Sorry DJ, I started on the thing before you put that up, and had most of the outline... so the model's an older type... I might stop after this one due to the sheer amount of time it takes, but it has made me confident in my ability to model from a reference... I didn't realize how slow I am at it... lol.

.blend upload (sans barrel and clip, same model as above) for viewing. note: I am NOT using the mirror modifier... I should, just keep forgetting it's there.

Looks good but it seems that you should use two reference images as the top part doesn't indent the way it does on your model. The object is also entirely inside out, you can solve that by going into textured solid mode (d > Textured Solid) then selecting the faces pointing the wrong way and Flipping the normals (W > Flip Normals).

Otherwise its usable

Edit: Noticed the reference image is from a 3D artist forum post filled with them

I started your model. So if you don't mind to wait about one more day, I'll have a nice model with texture and normals for you.

@Quik and djmaster I'm worse than both of you... I can't even UV map well. Unless that's what you both mean .

alright, I'll scrap it. And yeah, the reason I posted for refs was because I had no front-view ones. Also I don't know guns... just bullets. Sold 'em to stupid people... and one smart one.

The normal thing is odd... I was paying attention and flipping any that seemed excessively dark. Highlighting all and hitting ctrl N should automatically do it, but I wasn't gonna do that until the whole thing was done. I'll just focus on Omen for now, at least until my quickness increases.

Good luck!

your more likely to find an angled view of a gun then a front view.
